I just wanted to bring up discussion about this, and show how I feel for all you Dutch people ( )
You live in the Netherlands, which is also referred to as Holland, your biggest province, whatever, and yet you're called the Dutch. I feel for you because you have so many things to consider there! You live somewhere different than what is often referenced and you're called the Dutch. I feel for you all!
No, seriously, isn't that weired? Does anyone know why this is so?

It comes from the similarity of the word Dutch to that of Deutsch (German in German). The word "Dutch" and "Deutsch" both stem from the same word, because both the Dutch and German languages are both West Germanic languages, and the area of Northern Europe including Germany and the Netherlands was settled by Germanic tribes around the time of the Roman Empire.
An alternative to the word Dutch when referring to the language is "Netherlandic," although I have actually never heard this before until I looked it up (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_language).
Side Note: Although the Netherlands and Holland are often used interchangeably, politically Holland is just two provinces (North and South Holland) within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, referred to in Dutch as "Nederland."
You should also "feel" for all the Scottish, Irish, and Welsh people who are called "English" when someone refers to the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland as "England."

hmmm. I never thought of the people as dutch when i was visiting the Netherlands. I dunno what I thought to call them... nothing i don't think.

Not the whole of the Netherlands you silly, the border started about halfway in the Netherlands, my town's name originially was Roman for New Market,
But anyway, different name, no difference.

When i saw who Wrote this Topic i rolled my eyes and wondered... You nkow why.
Anyways, don't feel for us, we feel for you not knowing how and what too call us 
A long itme ago we had a TV program where a guy went out too tourists and ask them if they could point out on the map where they are, they pointed all kinds of srazy things! From south Africa too Iceland!
BTW: What do e have too considder here?
I think its actually quite amusing. But we dutch don't notice anything of the confusing, we simply call eachother Nederlanders (or Hollanders ) who speak Nederlands who live in Nederland. its quite simple for us.

Hollanders and Holland isn't too common for us Dutchies to use, it's when we refer to our national football squad mostly. 99% of the time it's Nederland and Nederlanders, it's not incorrect to use, just akward As to where it comes from, that goes way back in history.

You knoow, 'Holland' comes from 'houtland'. 'Hout' means wood, and 'land' means country or, land. So, Houtland would mean something like country of wood, or land of wood. However, almost all of this wood and forest has been, eh, harvested, so nooooooooooooooooooooow, we can add another meaning to the word 'Holland'; in modern Dutch, 'hol' means hollow.

, yeah. We did have a lot of forest, we still have 1 big one (veluwe) and the Ardennen is close too us. But germany is the Woodland now, so that should be the new 'Holland' .

I have nothing against Dutch people cause I have friends that are Dutch but I am not ashamed of my country. I love the United States.
