PostWed Apr 13, 2005 5:20 pm    Religious Heretics

I'm doing a report...thing...for school in the next few weeks on Religious Heretics (before 1600 A.D.). The subject is extremely broad, so I was wondering if anyone knew of some specific heretics of interest, or a time period/movement of note.

I didn't say I thought he knew it all. But I'm sure he would be well informed about the spanish inquisition being that it is probably part of his culture and stuff.

No, he is a christian. In a very extreme way. I had some heated discussions with him about the vatican and stuff, it goes really deep with him.

You want to know who the real heretic is?

Jesus Christ.

(man, i'm gonna be flamed by this)

But also the person who wrote the bible, who tought up the Church, the pope, the cardinals, the crusaders AND Tomas de Torquemada.

And then i'm just talking about the christian heretics (because h, who wants too talk about other religions right?).

You can also ask Repulican_man, he is a christian. give him a glass of milk and He will tell you all about the crazy stuff the christians did out of faith and in the name of jesus.

Gosh, what was the Vatican supposed to do. March in with the army they don't have? While you are busy blaming the Vatican which had little power to do anything, perhaps you could fit in some of the other world leaders of the time that ignored it.

in that time there where no World leaders, just leaders who had the same religion as the Vatican did, so the religion is too blame, not the people.

No, that isn't necessarily true. You can say you believe in God if you want. Does that mean you do? As you said, you don't. So it wouldn't be true even though you said it. As the bible says, actions speak louder than words, and so the real you is shown through them. If you're doing things that the bible says is wrong (which it does) then it is the person(s), not the faith. Everyone does wrong things, but some more than others such as in this case.

Talk about the guy who translated the bible from latin to english so that everyone not just priests could read it. His name was William Tyndale or Tynedale, I think. He was almost killed because the translation was seen as illegal. I can't rember when it was though, something like 1550.

Wheeeeeeere did I say that there are no other world leaders to blame? But if you're going to profile yourself as being something with meaning to mankind ignoring mass murder seems like the wrong thing to do.

I'm a Christian too, I just don't know a lot about religious heretics outside the usual ones...Martin Luther and the whole bit. They don't have to be Christian. I think it would be interesting to find stuff about other religions.

However, some good recommendations. Thanks.

Yes, I do, thank you. It's a person/movement in which a group seperates from the orthodox belief of things. The word in Greek means "choice of beliefs" or "faction of believers." I'm not sure why you seem to have gotten the idea I don't know what I'm talking about.

Actually, i always thought a Heretic is best described as a person that goes against faith in the eyes of the Believer.

My recommendations where people who in my eyes went against the beliefs of Christianity.

The Inquisition? Part of our CULTURE? What? I haven't been taught it in the Church or anywhere besides public school. It is NOT part of our culture. It's part of our HISTORY, and a dark one at that.

Extreme way? What. No, that's not true. That does not make him EXTREME. Both you and zero have made some pretty ignorant comments right there.

Torquemada didn't write the Bible. The Bible is a compiling, made by ROMAN PRIEST leaders in the early hundreds, of stories by Apostles, etc. And Torquemada didn't think of the Chuch, the Pope, and the Cardinals, nor the Crusade. Did he start a Crusade? Yes, the Inquisition. But all those things? LEARN SOME FACTS. Don't blabbe LIES, nor be IGNORANT on this situation.

1. Saying it was "part of the culture" is somewhat ignorant, but I highly doubt it was meant cruelly. That's like saying naziism was a part of German culture. And in some way, it is. (I am German, nobody kill me, kay?)

2. Why does saying "Extreme" Christian sound bad to you? I consider myself an extreme Christian. "It goes very deep with him" isn't a horrid remark to hear.

3. As he said, it was a list of people worth mentioning. I happen to be very interested in how the bible was compiled, and I'm more than aware that it took a number of people to do so.

Please, people, don't turn this into a heated argument. It's just talking about history of certain religions; just because people are mentioning tenative pasts of the church is not call to lose it. I don't believe anyone here has meant wrong by their words. However, you are free to think so if you like. I will forget about getting help from you people altogether if it's going to turn into a yelling fest. (This indicating the past 3 posts) I just wanted a few names, a few incidents. It's rather distracting to get that while muddling through cursing and sarcastic remarks.

Thank you.
