PostMon Apr 11, 2005 1:08 am    Allergies

Who here has to put up with awful springtime allergies, or allergies in general??

I NEVER NEVER used to have any at all till just 2 years ago!! 2 summers ago, out of no where, suddenly my eyes got all ichy around my friend's cats when i was spending the night there - and mind you had i been around these cats tons of times before! So suddenly since that, i'm allergic to cats - if i don't touch my eyes i'm fine!

Now just last summer for the very first time ever, i'm suddenly allergic to tree pollen in the spring - AWFUL!! My eyes get SUPER ichy and watery, and my nose gets all stuffed up. My eyes are the worst part, and it's absolutly MISERABLE!!! Absolutly nothing helps. So i'm suck like this for i'd say another 2-3 weeks till the trees are done budding...grrr! Atleast i'm all good after that.

What about the rest of you?

okay.

Well, firsly those things flower give off in spring. pollen you call them?

Then there are those little creatures that live in dust, kinda flea like. If i would breath in one of htem i go all out of breath and i need medicne to stop it.

Then there is Hay(you call it that? its the dried up grass).

i think i'm also allergic too sawdust, but it could be just irritating when it gets in my nose.

I'm also highly allergic too that stuff you put on your face too become a clown. When i put that on my face swells up and i get all red and bumpy.

I'm allergic to dustmites and also to pollen (from trees and stuff).
The first one I knew, but a year ago I was tested again and that revealed that I was allergic to that too, and cats. Never noticed anything; the summer is the time when I least sneez.

Anyway, I found a CURE! Yeah, really, and it works really good. In Holland it's called 'Oralgen', and they're drops you put under your tongue 2x a week (20 drops). You do that for about 3-5 years, and if all goes well you're immune to them... The drops are just some synthetic allergens you take in every week, so your body gets used to it.

They said to me that in the first year, I shouldn't expect to see much difference; but I did! I sneez a LOT less, really, normally it would be 20x a day, now it's like 10x a week! really! So cool.
The only thing is that you can't get pregnant during the time that you're taking those drops
But I'm really happy about it, it works perfectly for me

some washing detergents cause my skin to look like a Xindi's, but I'm pretty good apart from that. My mum's friend is awful, she's a vegetarian whos allergic to cats, peanuts, dust mites, onions and (sometimes) wheat. Sometimes she doesn't get an allergic reaction to wheat, sometimes she does.
Dust mites used to make me cough, but I grew out of it when I grew out of my asthma.
I'm pretty lucky when it comes to allergies, but not so much in other fields. Like if I get bit by a mosquito or a flea I always get a scar even if I don't scatch it. I scar and bruise very easily.

Yup, that's pollen That's a type of hayfever.

Dust mites. It won't be the actual creatures you're allergic to, but their waste products. Here's a hint- don't make your bed. It stops them breeding

Yup, hay is dried grass... you already have hayfever, but most people don't get hayfever to actual hay. It's probably the dust it makes.

That's face paints. That's quite a common allergy.

I've got hayfever, and am allergic to amoxycillin (and probably penicillin, but I'm not trying it to find out ). I developed my hayfever when I was 15, and the allergy to amoxycillin when I was 16. Before that, I was fine (I've had amoxycillin loads in the past, as well as penicillin, so it was a surprise to find I'd become allergic).

During the spring/summer, I get an itchy, stuffy, runny nose, running eyes, and a sore throat. I also feel generally awful. Up to now, I've not taken antihistamines... last year cos I was breastfeeding, and the year before that because I was pregnant. I might take some this year if it gets bad though.

When I last had amoxycillin, it was for bronchitis. It made me feel better for the first couple of days... then suddenly I developed a rash, was finding it harder to breathe, and sent my temperature right up (again). I told the doctor what happened and he told me it was an allergic reaction, and I shouldn't take it again. Caused problems when I was breastfeeding, because all the antibiotics they wanted to give me were either a penicillin derivative, or passed into the breastmilk.

I don't know if you can call this allergy. My kids and I have asthma, so we can not be outside too much during the summer. Or we will have asthma attacks. And plus we are allergic to the pollen too.

Yeah, its the waste products of the dustmite. I have special sheets under my normal ones too keep the dust on them instead inside the blanket. I only use the pillow and matras one though because the sheet one slides of the special sheet and then i wake up with only the sheet in my hands. It makes a lot of noise too.

Face paint? Thats it? i thought it had some special name or anything. We in Holland call it "Schmink". Sounds cool huh?

I have bronchitis too, thats why its bad when i breath in Dustmites. medicine work excellent though.

i read somewhere that being allergic to pollen and such can lead to asthma - i'm hoping i don't get it! Tree pollen is my only thing, but you never know!

Asthma, I would say, is more linked to immune disorder, accompanied with allergies. I used to have asthma, and not a very good immune system. I lived in a place that was awful for allergies (Torching of ricefields, EXTREME dust problems, rotting of ricefields, chemicals in the ricefields...ylch). I still have slight allergies (Less since I moved) but after I started taking vitamins and minerals and eating better, I was cured of asthma, which was pretty amazing to me...but I wouldn't complain.

I had a bad reaction to something in an IV once, made me totally freak out and make my mother take the IV out, (she's a nurse), but no real allergies.

I am allergic to tree pollen, mold spores, cats, and much more and the bad thing is that the tree pollen and mold spores are really heavy in the area that I am in, so I am almost always have itchy eyes, waterier nose and much more.

Really poisonous E numbers that they put in luminous candy bars totally mess my body up. I was sick for days once because of it, and they can give me mood swings too.
