Star Trek: Explorer ISAS 01: Beginings (title may change)

CHAPTER ONE

�Ships Star log: May 4th, 2064. Captain John Draven reporting for the Explorer. It has been about a year and one month sense the Vulcans landed on earth and made contact with earth. Now we are about to launch our first warp ship. Well perhaps not the first, but the first ship in which the warp technology will be a normal thing to be on the ship. I belive we are the first ship sense the Phoenix, well the first human ship sense then but that is unknown as not all human space exploration programs work together and everyone is keeping their warp ship a secret for as long as they can. Working on the basis that we are the first, we have big plans for this ship. Of course the Vulcans are being their stubborn selves and are trying to prevent the launch. This ship at the most can probably do warp 1.2, and they feel we are not ready to go �out there� yet. All this ship is doing is exploring Sol. This will be the first human warp ship to do so.�
Captain Draven sat in his quarters where he had just made a ships long entry. He was glad this was not one of the many things not working well on this ship. The Explorer was supposed to be launched any day now, but because of all the malfunctions and delays it may yet be more time. Draven left his room to check out what was going on with the rest of the ship. It was in shambles, there were engineers and builders everywhere trying to get this ship operational on time. Draven went to the turboshaft and steped inside. Looking at the controls there were 4 buttons that controlled the lift. One button for each level and an emergency stop control. There was also a communications panel that was added at the last minute for ease of being able to raise crewman should they happen to be in the lift at the time they were needed. Pressing the big square button marked �2�, the lift descended to the second of the three deck ship. He then went to the tiny cramped mess hall to get a bite to eat.
�Chef, what�s cooking?� Draven asked in a interesting manner.
�Uh well sir, I�m afraid the only thing I could get to work long enough is the heating unit at low power, so I made some soup. I made 3 kinds, a little more than usual, but I figured with all of the extra people running around today.�
Draven nodded almost impatiently. �Ok, what have you got?�
The Chef answered quickly. There is Tomato, Chicken Noodle, and New England Clam Chowder.�
�I�m in a hurry, what�s the smallest serving bowl you have?�
�I have a soup cup for the smallest Captain�
�That will be fine. I want a cup of Clam Chowder, and a small glass of Iced Tea.�
The Chef moved quickly and had the captain�s order in seconds. There were a couple other people in the room at a table in a corner. Draven went to the other side that had more or less been designated the Captain�s table. He sat down and quickly ate his meal then left the room and headed towards engineering to see what kind of mess that was in.
Draven walked in to see all 6 engineer officers running around the room making some last minute adjustments. He could see that there was several things half done. He walked over to the officer in charge.
�Commander Connor, what�s going on?�
�Captain.� A startled engineer started. �If I had known you would be here..�
Draven waved him off with quick movements dismissing his uneasiness
�I�m just here to see what�s going on.� Before he could continue, a voice rang over the com.
�Ensign Segal to Captain Draven.�
Draven walked to the comm. panel and pushed the button to speak.
�Draven here.� Came the reply from the Captain.
�Sir, Admral Calhoun is on the com, he would like to speak with you.�
�Patch it to my ready room, I�m on my way�
Draven left engineering and went to the turbo lift. He stepped inside and hit the button marked one.

The lift arrives at deck one and Draven steps out and goes to his ready room. He sat down and activated his screen to see the face of Admiral Calhoun.
�Admiral.� Draven stated in respect.
�Captain Draven. We need to talk, come to ISA HQ.�
�With all due respect sir, this ship needs to get underway. I need supervise the final stages.�
�I realize that, but there are things that need to be said that�s not for unseen listeners�
Draven understood immediately. There has been evidence lately that unauthorized access was being made to the com channels and people were listening in. Draven often wondered who it was that was listening in on these converstations.
�Aye sir, I will be there in about 30 minutes.�
�See you then Captain�
Before Draven could reply, the Admiral turned his screen off. Draven sat there staring at a black screen. He got up and went to the Turbolift and stepped inside. He pushed the button marked �2� and the lift moved down a level. Draven then went to the docking port and walked to the station connected to the port. Draven went to the station�s POD bay and got a pilot and a POD. After clearing for launch the POD made its way towards the ISA HQ that�s also in orbit of earth. It wasn�t much. More or less like the old style space station that orbited earth before being shot down at the beginning of World War III. It, unlike the former station, had gravity, and was more advanced in design. Draven listened to the Pod�s engines as it made its way to ISA HQ.
