PostSat Apr 02, 2005 10:19 pm    Remembering the "Titanic"

This was the picture many people saw when the "unsinkable ship" was sent to the deps of the Atlantic sea. This ship carried many dreams; people who could have been our future. That ship could have carried someone to invent a new item that would make it so much easier today.

The only experiance we have today is the movie. It's more of like a love story, which is a good way to film it. It gives more heart to the story instead of some ship going trough water.

I know, personaly, that this took place years ago, but that doesn't mean it should be forgoten.

I watched this not to long ago after I made this tribute to the "Titanic." I cried, and my mom saw. She walked over to me. She said, "Andrew, you have the biggest heart.." The impact, especialy with my family history, was hugh.

This was a horrible way to die for these people. Yes, some did live, but i'm sure they had wished they went down with the ones they lost. Think of the pain they had to go through. It must have been terrible.

Don't let the memorys die...

The Titanic had several bulkheads which divided the ship into six sections. Each bulkhead had a door near the keel which let people and stuff move easier from one section to another. These doors were supposed to be kept closed except when in use and if closed the ship would have been safer, but there were no indicators in the bridge or elsewhere to see if the doors were open. The reason the ship sank was due to laziness; the crew kept the doors open to make things easier.
Even though 3 sections were torn open, the ship might have capsized but would not have sank below the surface. This would have saved many peolple by letting them get out of the freezing water, and might have saved some or most of those who were trapped below-decks.

FYI, the Titanic had two sister ships, RMS Britannic and RMS Olympic. There was a nun who was present on all three when they sank - and she survived all three!

^^Really. I didn't know about that nun webtaz. Wow... that has got to be faith or something..

I knew there were sister ships and stuff like that.

I made an RPG. It's on my link. If this reply is blue it's going to be hard to see so just move your cursor at the very end of teh reply post and you'll see it light up. Read my TIM topic and look over the RPG.

God bless,

Read the part of the article about Jazz up there.

R.I.P those who died, though. Very sad. Very tragic.

I thought the titanic was such a beauty! And still I like to watch the discovery channel when they go and see it underwater. Yes, movie was horrible, But it gave me an idea of how beautiful it was.

I don't think laziness would be the wod many would use to describe the Titanic crew before the sinking...probably incompetance or something of the sort. As for the nun who survived all three, I guess it does pay to have a strong faith now doesn't it?

I also understand that this was very tragic and may those who died rest in peace for all eternity...and who knows, maybe someday in the future if a "Starfleet" or something of that sort is formed...maybe they will name a starship after the Titanic, along with several other ships and space shuttles that went down.

Again, to everyone who went down in the Titanic...rest in peace.

I think it was terrible thing because they could've saved a lot more people then they did, since they didn't fill the rescue boats in the beginning

(oh and this topic reminded me of oli btw. )

Apparently, there was a ship nearby the Titanic when it sank and it didn't help them because it thought they were doing fine- I read that somewhere. Also, the first 100 or so lifeboats were less than half full. It was a terrible tragedy, but then a child dies ever three seconds from extreme poverty. It seems strange to remember the Titanic so well, seeing as we didn't learn all that much from it- except that you should always have enough lifeboats and NOT travel at full speed near icebergs. The Titanic was given iceberg warnings and chose to ignore them. Their ignorance and arrogance was their downfall

^Well said.

And this was a one-time-accident, that's why it's horrible and that's why people remember it... the thing about one child dying every third second... well... we've just grown used to that so to speak... that's why we don't think about it that much. :?

This is slightly off topic and will make me sound like a beast, but I care more about global warming and conserving the planet than I do about extreme poverty, simply because extreme poverty keeps the world population down and if climate change happens, there might not be a world for anyone to suffer in.

Titanic was shocking because it happened to the richest people at the time (even though the poorer classes onboard died), and because it happened between two powerful countries, England and the USA. If it had happened to some far off cruise liner somewhere else, it wouldn't have been as shocking. Also, at the time, Britain made some of the best ships in the world (we certainly had one of the best navys), so to see the product of Britain (I think it was made in Northern Ireland...) fall apart at the seams was traumatic to say the least.

The ship that was nearby ignored the call because it was trying to beat the record for the fastest ship across the atlanitc I think. Was some fastest record anyway.

I don't think so, the ship slipped along the iceberg and it had made holes in numerous sections of the hull, and in a number of compartments. It would have sunk eventually, just that that speed it up.

Did, and I found it funny even though I'm a christian, lol.

It was really sad and tragic for all who lost their lives. It was an example of man's arrogance though, and that was why it was reported so much.

I think the Titanic looks more beautiful now. It's like, dude, mother earth, man, has claimed the ocean's kinda beauty dude... It's all covered in fish and barnacles and it's natural again. Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust, and all that jazz. Well maybe not jazz, because thats an sinful kind of music that sinks ships...
But anywho, it's probably teeming with ocean life now, and maybe each one of those ickle fishies living in the wreck has the reincarnate soul of a person who died that day... I think I might be turning into one of those mad celtic hippies.

When Titanic was bulit and the passenger trade was booming and the ships line definatly need passengers and people weathiest people competed for thie $$$ thier was Cunard and White Lines both were trying to get passengers. Cunard was the first to launch thier ships to domianted the trade. Shortly after 1907 White Star Line launched thief first of the super ships they were making. In October of 1909 i think it was Olympic was launched and she was one of the biggest ships they have ever seen. Than 2 years later Titanic was launched and when she was the biggest, the most luxious ship in her time. Some people say that when she was launched that she had Defy God or something like that on her hull but we would never know. So, they launched her on the Apirl 10th, 1912 and left Southampton England for her maiden voyage. 4 day into her journey she would be at the end of her journey. She hit the iceberg on the starboard side with a glansing glow and ripped her in like a can of cardense. The Damage was thought to belive a big 500 feet gash but that was later discover that it wasnt nothing that they thought it was. It was only 12 square feet of damage that doom the mightly vessel. And only 705 passengers and crew survive the mighty disaster and 1500 people went down with the ship and including the good captain which he went down with this ship as a good captain does. Took her 2 hrs and 40 mins to sink and people were heros and some where. God, brought the mighty Titanic as her named is part of the might Titan. As soon she gave the curse to her sister ship Britannic was orgianlly named Gigantic. But she did her journeys across the Kea Channel and she went down on her 6th voyage and took 55 mins to sink. She was more safety wise. She had her compartments raise on certain ones, she had double skin making her much much more safer. Well, that is for another time.

I hope you enjoy it from my point of view.
