[quote="Exalya"]Why shouldn't kids work towards providing for their families? When times are tough, sometimes you have to. I come from a long line of people who have worked and gone to school (Hard to do, but they did) while they lived at home and gave the money up so that they had a place to live. Just how it works. That's not a sin. Dropping out isn't a good idea, and the kids should know that. Prefferably, they would balance work and school, which is possible. A little more difficult, but possible. "Kids should not be providing at all" might be true...but one learns a lot while doing so. And sometimes you don't have that luxury.

you come from a line of people who worked and went to school. These cases are different. The kids are simply dropping out.. I think staying in school is worth the struggle. That way you can better your life, and not live the same crappy one.

I was more responding to "Should not provide at all" for their families. Implying that under no circumstances should they contribute. Of course staying in school is worth the struggle. That needs to be demonstrated.

I'm still more interested in answers to the second set of questions. I suppose I'll have to find those myself.

Since there is such a difference in whites vs colored people graduating, shouldn't they then just study the differences between the two and try to figure out what the real problem is? Why should it be--why are the other dropping, rather than what seems to be working in the white kids?

These are some good ideas and thoughts, and I think I have to agree with them, especially the first paragraph.

I agree with Beta6 on some issues she has mentioned. I feel terrible kids are in these types of situations. There is no way a child can advance if their parents can not provide for them. As much as kids/teens hate to hear it, school is extreemly important. Now McDonalds requires a high school diploma. (i think, unless i was mis-informed)

ah well i can see this point on kids dropping out because people are not caring no more because they are going for the younger kids now if your in high school and doing bad they just do not care anymore. even the president does not care (which is no surprise)
People forget or don't know what it is like to be a high school minority I know because I am Puerto Rican and in high school and also taking my G.E.D courses and my father has said to me do what makes me happy but get some form of education so I have something to fall back on.
They have to try to help kids not just brand them as minority's that "the system" does not care about.
this is my opinion and that is how i leave it
