It has been an extremely difficult afternoon for everyone at Eyewitness News.
We report on a lot of tragedies, often with a lot of pain and sorrow. We understand that all too well today as we mourn the loss of a very special member of our family.
Anchor and ten year Channel 8 employee, Polly Gonzalez, was killed in a car accident at 3:30 this afternoon.
Polly was driving on Highway 127 in California's Death Valley with her two young daughters.
California Highway Patrol reports that Polly was in a single car accident and died at the scene.
Her two daughters, age five and eight received minor injuries.
Polly was hired as an Anchor/Reporter in 1994. She anchored the Eyewitness News newscasts at noon and 4:30.
She was a valued and respected employee who loved her children and loved her job as an anchor here at Channel 8.

She was my favorite anchorwoman on television but sadly she had to die in a fatal car accident.

I guess they don't call it the death valley for nothin. Sad though. At least her kids were ok.
