Just curious as to what you guys all think of this new series on SciFi (or whatever channel you get it on), and because I don't know if there is already a topic about it . I myself truly like this show, I was somewhat a fan of the Stargate SG-1 series, but this series has helped to make me a true SG fan...I watch it every Friday now at 11:00 p.m. (watching other things at 8:00 p.m., so I watch the later one) and it is what I look forward to after ENT so I can see what will happen to the Atlantis peeps this week. So, what is your guys take on the show?

First few episodes are quite good, but then they start dipping into the unoriginal stories. I knew they'd do a 'Sleeping monster wake up and terrorises everyone' story, but I didn't realise they'd do it so soon.
Disappointing and definitely not as good as SG-1, which isn't that great itself, anymore.

I agree . . . Stargate Atlantis still has a lot of potential, but in my opinion they aren't doing anything with that potential, and it's frustrating. I don't like the characters of Dr. Weir or Teyla, and I think that a lot of the first season had some very unrewarding storylines.
What has surprised me the most is the McKay character. I'm actually starting to like him, as egotistical as he is. Sheppard is too much like an O'Neill character at this time: tough, yet with a humorous side, I hope they'll continue to expand his character.
I'm starting to get disenchanted with Stargate SG-1 . . . in Season 7 I've started to notice that more and more of the shows have footage from previous shows, or that one or more of the main cast doesn't show up at all. I recognize that the producers wanted to start playing with the series, but now that the ninth season is in production, I hear the RDA wants to leave. My only consolation is that hopefully Ben Browder (John Crichton from Farscape) will indeed join the cast and do well on the show. . . .

i didnt get into it that much.. ive seen the first 8 eps.. and i liked the first one coz sheppards hilarious.. but unlike stargte, i wasnt hooked straight away. i dont like tayla too much.. she seems to be too much like a female teal'c.. or SOMETHING! all tribal and all.. wier's peeing me off.. i like rodney coz he yammers on a lot (like me ahahah!). but sheppard's character.. it looks like the writers tried to make him a blend of both carter and oneill.. smart, with quirky lines.. but theres something a little off.he doent seem to pull it off right.
as 4 the wraith.. omg! lame-o! i dont like em.. they dont do anything for me like the goauld do! the goauld are kanniving, scheeming, evil and have cool technology! they're super villains that i love to watch oneill fight against.. as for the wraith.. all they wana do is eat.. *sarcastic voice* OOoooH! im scared! i think the writers made a poor choice of villains for atlantis! i prefer the megalomaniac ones.
i tried to watch the first 8 eps again.. andi got so bored that i stopped watching it half way.. depending on what the rest of the season looks like.. i doubt i'll be watching anymore of it.

I don't think it will last five seasons in my opinion. I can't really get into it much. It is ok but not great.

Okay, the season finale was appalling.
If they were going to give us a deus ex machina, it could have been a good deus ex machina. Instead, we get soldiers from the SGC, after they just 'happened' to discover a new ZPM in Egypt.
The only redeemable moments in this episode were those provided by Dr. McKay--I'm really like his character now--and the very ending, with Sheppard's suicide run. The rest of the episode was overdone, in both acting and special effects, and I don't know . . . it just really struck me as not a good note upon which to end the season.
I expected something better.

The second half of season one in US...it started out alright, but I'm a little sceptical about the series now.
(Also, I've decided to start a new poll...so here goes).
Will Stargate: Atlantis last as many season as SG-1 did?
Option 1- Stargate: Atlantis will last seven seasons and longer!
Option 2- Stargate: Atlantis will last about four or less seasons.
Option 3- Stargate: Atlantis will be cancelled very soon.
Option 4- Its too early to tell, ask me after season 2 or 3.
I'm going with Options 4 & 2. I say its too early to tell, but based off the last half of the season...I'd say it may not last seven seasons, I may change my opinion later on though.

Gosh, not the beginning of Season 2 in the US. It's still Season 1. Both Stargates take their break in the middle of the season.

Heh . . . I'll wait. In comparison to the first seasons of Stargate SG-1 (which had a movie to back it up), Stargate Atlantis (which had the movie and the series to back it up) does not look as good. I've already declared my dissatisfaction with the season finale, my only hope is that it shapes up during season two.

Tss, the movie was more detrimental then a help to SG-1, and then starting out on Showtime wasn't that great, either. The show really took off when Sci-Fi got ahold of it. Atlantis looked promising, but is now looking, blah.

Agreed, but I am a true hardcore Atlantis fan and I have no doubt (in my mind) that it will eventually shape up...didn't SG-1 take a while to shape up to Stargate? I'm sure Atlantis just needs faith from its fans and time, it will shape up...or, at least I hope so .
