Well, it's a tough decision. From a practical perspective, I'd rather just get him out of the way than lock him up forever.

No, I'd rather him live his life in prison... and suffer. Not be put to death and then that's it... it's all over.

well, if you read the article closely, he is most likely to serve life in prison then die of execution

See, that's the kind of bureaucracy I'm talking about.

He should die for he did. Life is prison is not going to teach him anything. If you have not notice there's television in the prisons. Spoil em yeah right. Be in prison and have a luxury life while Lacey's family go through hell. oh humbug.

He should be punished for what he did. but prison is no resort at least not where he is. As far as exucution? im mixed on that (over all not this particular case)

I strictly believe in an eye for an eye. I think criminals should be punished for what they did by having the very same done to them. if I killed someone, I'd hope they'd kill me for it.

So if he raped someone, he should also be raped?

I don't, simply because it brings you down to their level. If you give someone a death sentance, it makes you a murderer.

That's right. But if you rape or kill someone, you should get the maximum sentence, no matter what that is.

Sorry, still don't buy it. The Bible says "Thou shalt not kill". I may think of the book as a guide than a history book, but I feel the ten commandments are very important. It does not say "Thou shalt not kill unless the person you are killing has killed". It's slightly hypocritical.

BTW: I do agree with giving the maximum sentence, but I don't agree with the maximum sentence being death. My dad is in prison for rape, my mother is the person he raped, so I'm in the position of being a family member of both a victim and a criminal. I think he should have gotten a lot longer sentence than he did, but I also understand the judge's reasoning behind only giving him 10 1/2 years (my dad reported it himself, although that was only because he thought he'd killed my mother).

well, i think when it comes to murder it's an eye for an eye. If anyone I knew was killed, trust me, I'd go after the person that killed them and, if I had to, kill them myself. that's part of what makes me such a scary person to be around sometimes. ^^ But, as I said, if i were to kill someone, I'd hope someone would kill me.

That's just my philosophy though. Not saying you're wrong, Seven of Nine, just saying that's my stand on things.

I don't think it should be an eye for an eye. Cause how are they g oing to learn? If someone kills a person, obviously they have a mental problem... and killing them would be doing them a favor. So, I think justice is locking them up and letting them face prison.

Hmm... Couldn't being a sociopath be considered a mental illness, therefore making him "mentally handicapped", and a candidate to be put to death? Lord knows he's certainly not going to "contribute to society" ever again.

If he served life in prison, we would not have to worry about him getting back out into society again...

I agree. Those that cannot be turned from a criminal mindset and cannot resist their own impulses should be eliminated. I get the feeling that your comment was directed at me.

Actually, not entirely, I did wonder where you would stand on this, though.

I'll ask a lot of questions, Zeke, not to try and put you down, but to try and understand. A lot of the topics right now in WN seem to be interlinked, so I'm sure it'll keep popping up.

That's for sure. I'm trying to stay away from that Schiavo topic though. I seem to be tempting a whirlwind of retribution in there. I can't find any one party to agree with because most of my views cross over. I support Terri's death, I support the death penalty, and I support abortion. I'm a realistic liberal, T. If I'm to have my socialist views, I must create a world in which they can theoretically be supported. A lot of this is personal experimentation, too. I don't necessarily like where my arguments take me, but I need to create a full picture. I'm don't feel bound to a national or religious basis, so I work from scratch. That means I need to be able to argue every viewpoint in as many ways as possible. The trouble is that most views trace back to personal belief, which can't be argued. Therefore, I try to use as much fact as possible. And I'm beginning to discover the anchors fact has in components of almost every political affiliation. So, we are on a joint quest to understand. Don't cease to question. The more I think on these things, the better.

I support this mans death, in may ways, I'm with zeke, if you can't control your own violent impulses, you just need to be eliminated.

yes, I realize I'm a cold hearted, cruel person.

I'd go for life in solitary confinement.

Well, now you run into the same paradox I keep bringing up. Killing them should be cheaper, but the way we go about it it isn't. So, the only benefit to the death penalty as the U.S. does it is to save on space.
