A Scanner Darkly (2005)

Credits and Additional Info

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey, Winona Ryder, Woody Harrelson
Directed by: Richard Linklater
Distributed by: Warner Brothers
Release Year: 2005
Writing credits: Philip K. Dick

Synopsis
Some day in the future, there will be a new highly addictive drug called Substance D, and the main side effect is that it causes split personalities in all who use it. Drug cop Fred(Keanu Reeves) is working undercover to catch Bob a big-time drug dealer. Little does he realise that he is chasing himself, as Bob is really just one of Fred's many personalities. Based on the Philip K. Dick novel.

Teaser Trailer
__________________________

At first I thought that it was going to be yet another Scanners movie because it involved multiple personalities and powerful new drugs, but after watching the trailer I realized that the similarities ended there. Judging from the trailer it doesnt have the telepathy and mind powers like the Scanners movies did, but if someone in this new movie suddenly develops psyonic powers I will be forced to go back to my original belief that this is just another Scanners movie because that would be too many coincidences not to be considered in the Scanners series.
__________________________

EDIT: Holly cow! I was right, it is a scanners movie! I just did some research and found out that A Scanner Darkly is, in fact a remake of the original 1981 film Scanners! I think Im going to watch the original version again before I decide to watch this new remake.

I saw a trailer for this when I was going to see Constantine. It looked intriguing, I haven't read the book nor seen the movie but I intend to do either or both. I might go see the movie in theatres, but probably not.

Judging from most modern remakes I doubt that it will even resemble the original. I dont even think that most remakes should even be considered remakes, most of the time they arent even the same story, just something that was slightly inspired by the original. I highly doubt that it will have anything to do with the original except drugs and brain damage.

I know it's an adaptation of the Phillik K Dick short story. I don't know whether it will have any relation to previous adaptations of that story.
