The survival requires on things like holodecks for training and an astrometrics would help, along with regular use of shuttles etc..

The Defiant just doesn't have the facilities to last a 70000 light year journey like Voyager did! Sure, they'd be able to kick the asses of any hostile aliens that they came across, but it's just not a ship built for a mission of that length. After reading the Mission Gamma DS9 books, it's clear to see the Defiant can last out in space for a few months on it's own, but I don't see it being able to survive the way Voyager did for years.

As for holodecks, the deck layouts in the DS9 Technical Manual show that the Defiant doesn't have any.

Yes, it doesn't. And It's perfectly logical. A warship is meant for shorter distances only and for short distances on doesn't need a holodeck, right?

The Defiant was built to combat the borg. Voyager wasn't.

Defiant could stop at moons and planets and such for supplies and stockpile them just like voyager did, however i'm pretty sure the defiants warp capabilitys cannot match or out match an intrepids.

The only ships I would prefer to travel in for such a journey over an intrepid would be either a prometheus or sovereign for their even higher warp capabilitys than an intrepid, and obviously, their far superior combat capabilitys.

Enterprise D has been in the Delta Quadrant for a short period of time.

Defiant would be ok for awhile until it meets a fleet of hirogens then its doomed to be destroyed.

Defiant could last awhile in the delta quadrant as long as it remains cloaked alot.(The klingon d7 battlecrusier traveled for generations mostly under cloak-episode:"prophecy"-star trek voyager) It would have to stop at planets to gather resources and avoid battles.I can assure you one thing, with no holodecks and limited spaces, it would be an extremely boring trip, and i can see the crews moral going down hill.

I think that O'Brien could make a holodeck. They made Astrometrics onbaord VOY.

Nice point, they could make astrometrics on defiant and chief o'brien would be the perfect man for that job.It may be smaller than normal but would suffice. As for a holodeck well that would mean sacrificing a few of the crews quarters to place that in depending on how much power reserves that would take on the ship.If they could do all that,it would make the long trip home more tolerable.

Exactly. I would love to see Hirogen, Kazon, and others actually try to combat it. They would be in for a surprise.

FWI, they didn't make astrometrics. They upgraded it.

Thats true. But that shows they can do it though. Im sure they could create a holodeck. Perhaps by stopping at an alien starbase.

People keep saying "They need a holodeck! They need a holodeck! They can't make the journey without one!" Thats BS. How do you think Captain Kirk and his crew explored space? They didn't have a holodeck. All the Captain's before him too. I don't think they'd go nuts without one.

Intrepid:
Normal Cruise : Warp Factor 8
Maximum Cruise : Warp Factor 9.975
Maximum Rated : Warp Factor 9.985 for one hours

Defiant:
Normal Cruise : Warp Factor 6
Maximum Cruise : Warp Factor 8.7
Maximum Rated : Warp Factor 9.5 for twelve hours

Thats the two warp capabilites of the ship. How is the Intrepid "A LOT FASTER!!!"? Not by much at all. At warp it is faster, but only by a little. How would that help them in combat? The Defiant is a lot more maneuverable as well, even moreso than the Intrepid class.

INTREPID CLASS
Normal Cruise: Warp 6
Maximum Cruise: Warp 9.975

DEFIANT CLASS
Normal Cruise: Warp 6
Maximum Cruise: Warp 8.7
Maximum Rated: Warp 9

Oh and the whole Galaxy class in the delta quadrant thing has already been done in another thread

No HomerSimpson said it.

All federation ships of voyagers time period have a standard cruising speed of warp 6. With someships it is actually slightly higher but it is rounded down to a whole warp factor.

The intrepid class would actually be faster than that but because it's overall warp field and warp geometry was re-configured to it would cause less harm to subspace.

With the defiant. It wasn't until season 6 or 7 that the defiant could reach warp 9. It took along time but Chief O'Brien finally managed to alter the ships structural integrity so that the ship wouldn't literally fall apart when they reached warp 9.

Most of this information can be gathered from various Star Trek episodes and websites. One website i use is www.ditl.org but alot of the time it isn't very accurate so be carefull when looking at that one.

Remember that warp speeds increase exponentially so the difference between cruising at warp 6 and warp 8 for a 75,000 lightyear journey is very much significant.

Yeah, but all the kinks have been worked out. The Defiant no longer carries the several defects it one did.

Im sorry, I mean their maximum rate of warp. The different is miniscule. There is no doubt that it would take longer for them to get home, but im saying that the crew of the Defiant could do it.

Yeah I think once into their journey Obrien and the engineering crew could develop or refit the engines for higher cruise.

Ah no one needs holodecks either. Just turn the messhall crew dining area into a bar, have plenty of alcohol there and crew mates and I think they would all be set

You know actually. When you think about it the defiant might have made it home faster.

Remember the episode where Voyager come across the wormhole which lead to the alpha quadrant. It was first seen in TNG. The 2 Ferangi that got trapped on the other side of it were found by voyager. Remember?

Well. Voyager tryed to use that wormhole but voyager just wasn't manouverable enough to get to the opening of the wormhole before it changed position again.

Now Dhe defiant might have just managed to do it.

Don't forget Voyager is the most manouverable ship in the whole fleet.

Voy isn`t. The Defiant is the most manouverable ship in the whole fleet. Voyager is maybe the fastest.

Voyager is one of the fastest ships in starfleet. But that means it's warp speed. at impulse it isn't very manouverable.

the defiant isn't very fast at warp but it fast at impulse and is extremely manouverable.
