Sat Feb 19, 2005 1:19 pm Widescreen or Fullscreen? |

(Didn't know where to put this, Link...)
Anyway, which do you prefer? I personally like widescreen better. Didn't used to, until I saw how vastly different they were.

Ok, rephrase. When purchasing a DVD, which do you prefer.

(Bah, it's alright, doesn't matter.)
Personally, I like Widescreen becuase you get to see more, but those black bars annoy me to no end.

It really depends on the movie for me. So, i have to say widescreen for the most of the movies i own but full screen comes in a factor for the others. So for me 50 for the full/50 for the wide.

Fullscreen.
First of all, because my eyes are bad and I really don't like wearing my glasses and I don't really care to invest the time or money into contacts. So in fullscreen, it's bigger, and I can actually see what's going on.
Second, yeah... the black bars are annoying.
Third, you really don't get to see that much more. Like... uhm... ok, The Mummy Returns- I was on my Mummy Returns kick back in junior year. I had the fullscreen edition and watched it on that probably 12 times. I went to my friend Op's house and she had the widescreen edition. I only saw one extra thing and that was Evy laying on the ground while Alex did the chanting. That's like... not even important.
So fullscreen, definatly.

Whichever is the original aspect ratio.
Cutting off the sides of a widescreen movie to make it fullscreen is unacceptable; cutting off the top and bottom of a fullscreen image just to make it widescreen is equally unacceptable.
Usually, that means I prefer widescreen for movies, and fullscreen for TV shows. There are exceptions, though.

Now that I have a widescreen laptop, widescreen. Previous to that, I could play DVDs on our fullscreen computer or fullscreen TV, so widescreen didn't look as good.

Didn't it? Isn't it better to see the entire picture, rather than having 1/3rd of it cropped off just so the entire screen gets filled?
I can see that argument for people who have little tiny TVs.....but for everyone with a decent-sized screen, the choice should be obvious....

Widescreen
1. U get the full picture and not some poor hack job
2. U get what the director intened u to see, somtimes it blocks a whoel characture out and u dont see them or there expressions to say a funny scene

Wide, you ge the whole thing, not part
Like in the origanl Planet of the Apes there is a part when there is some form of trial i belive and at the edge of the screen you can see 3 monkeys doing the "see no evile, speak no evil, hear no evil" thingy,
in fullscreen, you dont see that.

The irrational part of me likes fullscreen better on fullscreen TVs, of course. To my eye, anything that doesn't take up all the available display space is too small. that's also why widescreen looks so good, in my opinion, on widescreen displays.

Widescreen, 16:9 that is. 2.35:1 is another useless invention: you have a widescreen tv and you get black bars AGAIN.

Well, I'm like Sam up there. I have pretty bad eyes, I hate wearing glasses, and I don't feel like contacts. So usually fullscreen. Unless I'm watching a really awesome movie (like the lord of the rings movies) then I get my glasses and live with them for 3 1/2 hours because those movies are so awesome and you just have to appreciate the whole thing. But nothing else really. Like when I'm watching Moulin Rouge, there's really nothing important that you miss having it on fullscreen versus widescreen. So I guess it all depends on the movie.

Well, using the "zoom" option on any DVD player also makes the picture bigger. You only see the center of it, but it's bigger, which can only be a good thing.....right?
With some series/movies, it doesn't matter. But with some it does. I don't understand how some people can so blithely accept missing out on 1/3rd of the picture just so it fills an entire 4x3 screen.
