PostMon Feb 07, 2005 8:39 pm    Remembering River Jude Phoenix. (Please read)

A boy that played an amazing role as Chris in the long before movie called, "Stand by Me," based on a Stephen King novella. River played amazing roles in all of his films, but I chose this particluar movie because of the passion and freindship that came out of it. When the movie first starts up you think that by the looks of him he's a pretty bad kid, but as the film progresses you find that he is loving and posses compasion towards his friends.

Taken from "Stand by Me."

I remember coming home from school after seeing this movie and just thinking how bad the ending was, how Chris(River Phoenix) was stabbed, or so says the narrator, and was killed instantly. That wasn't a very good ending and thats something I didn't agree with. I would rather go on thinking he had a good life, but River Phoenix' life was not all that great.

River grown up.

After he had grown up he left his acting job for a while, but than shot another film. People said he was acting diffrently, more protective of his life now.

Dates and age unknown

River Pheonix was born on August 23, 1970. On Halloween night, he died from a drug overdose. Drugs in his body were, some of them, were: heroin, cocaine, alcohol, exstay and more found when he had an autopsy.

Unlike many actors, River was a very shy person and hated publicity.

On the evening of October 30th 1993, he arrived to a club called "The Viper Room," owned by Johnny Depp. Minutes before 1 am, River had been in the bathroom doing drugs with some drug dealer freinds when somone offered him a snort of high-grade Persian Brown. Immediatly upon snorting the drug he began trembling and shaky. He then screamed at his freind and vomited. He staggered back into the bar over to actress Samantha Mathis and his sister Rain. He told them both he couldn't breathe and then briefly passed out. River was taken outside by Mathis and River's brother Joaquin. He then collapsed on the side walk then started having seizures.River at one point became still when Joaquin said he was not breathing. At 1:14 River was in full cardiac arrest. He was rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center ariving at 1:34. Upon ariving River's skin was dark blue, but his body was still warm. The ER physicians did everything to revive him, including a pace maker. He was pronounced dead at 1:51 am. on October 31. 1993.

I ask that each of you remember him, his soft and quite soul. How he was compasionate. He needs you, so don't forget him now. Always remember him. He deserves a good rememberance day.

Long live River Jude Phoenix!
Godbless,
~Andrew

"He didn't deserve to die
Though he curved to try
He went to the top
Flying trough the charts
He took a wrong turn
Slowley like a butter churn
We will never forget the soft blue Rivers made
For thus, you'll be our waterway."

Hopefully, we'll see you soon.
Love always and forever,

Just so you understand a little better. His name is Chris in the role he played in "Stand by Me." In real life as a human being, he is dead. That's why this says "remembering" on the topic. He was just 23 when he died. It's really sad. Anyways, continue with the comments...

Stand By Me was an awesome movie, I don't know why Stephen King just doesn't stick to non-horror writing (like "The Body" which Stand By Me was based off of, and the more popular The Shawshank Redemption). River Phoenix was probably the highlight of that movie as far as acting and characters go. He also played the young Indiana Jones in... Last Crusade, was it?

I had never heard of him, but that sucks. His brother Joaquin is now very famous in acting though. Weird.

RIP.

Come on guys. I'm serrious. It's really sad. Just think how the people felt that worked with him when he died. It's got to be pretty tough to see that happen. Especialy to his familey. He didn't deserve this, but theirs nothing we can do, but pray their is a Heaven and that the fans can see him. I'm sure he's watching over us though.

It also happened over 10 years ago, though. So... not like it's recent news or anything.

Well right, I get what your saying, but it's kinda hard to forget a person who has, acts and wants the same things you do in life. It's tough to get over that, but just because it happend 10 or so years ago doesn't mean it should be forgotten. If you died, would you want that to happen to you? To be forgotten?

Sorry to hear about this. I never really knew who he was, but I'm quite sure he'll be remembered more for his good deeds more than the bad. May he forever rest in peace and may god bless his soul .

I loved the movie stand by me. as I loved the book it was based upon (the body). And I love river pheonix. He was such an amazing person. And he selected very good friends (Johnny Depp). I think his was one of the greatest losses in human history.

Ya know.. I was just watching a scene from "Stand by M," where they fund the body of Ray Brower and to see the reaction and the impact of what they saw... You know that if they cared for eachother in the movie then you an imagine it was great in real life. River is gone.. I'm sure the whole group got seperated when that happend...Even his family..

There's the part where Chris has to cry in the movie. And I was watching this interview with the director, and he told him to think about a time that an adult had let him down and really dissappointed him, and then he cried. And he never asked him what he thought of, or who it was, or how it happened, after the shoot, he just gave him a hug and told him he loved him.

On a sad note such as this, the death of River Phoenix and all in '93, I was surfing the web and stumbled upon this website and so I thought I'd post it for people like AndrewBullock who are diehard River fans and all. The website is... http://www.angelfire.com/il/mjphoenix/ ...on this site are essays, poems, songs, and other works that people created about River Phoenix and as I was reading through them a lot of them caught my attention; therefore, I decided to share this site with all of you diehard River fans or for anyone who wants to view it.

(BTW: Some of the pictures on the site don't work, but to me its what the people wrote that actually counts ).
