Sun Feb 06, 2005 11:41 am Frozen human waste from jet crashes onto car |
|
Quote: | LEOMINSTER, Mass. - It came from the friendly skies, and caused quite a bit of damage.
advertisement
Frozen waste from a jets toilet smashed onto a womans car last week, crushing part of the roof and shattering the windshield.
A Massachusetts woman says no one is willing to help her pay for the repairs, or take responsibility.
Nina Gambone says federal aviation officials determined the chunk of frozen debris came from a jets lavatory. But, a spokesman says they cant do anything unless it can identify the airline responsible.
Gambone says she called her fire department in Leominster, which says they cant remove the glob because it is classified as hazardous waste.
The only good news is the woman and her 13-year-old son had just left the car before it was hit.

A great example of the bureaucracy working against the people. Misfortune strikes, and rather than help her, everybody shrugs it off as someone else's responsibility, leading to an inexorable maze of red tape, forms, and long waiting lines.

Oh, of course. But wouldn't you want to shoot down the planes before they drop their "payload"? ... a lot less messier...

Falling from that altitude, it certainly could do that much damage. If you dropped a penny off the top of the Empire State Building, and a man was standing directly underneath, the penny would go straight through him.

Shouldn't the real point be:
If that material is hazardous waste, why are airlines allowed to just dump it? Shouldn't they process it properly on the ground? With the exception of fuel consumed, planes should land with everything they took off with (especially passengers!).
P.S. The penny thing is an urban legend - watch "Mythbusters". Terminal velocity for a penny is below 65 mph.
