We should get rid of the queen and change the role of the Prime Minster to President. We would save �8 million a year alone and we would have an elected head of state. Much more democratic

Well really, all they are are symbols now . . . so I guess all you'd get out of the deal is lots of money.
But then what would happen to the Commonwealth? If you get rid of the monarchy, does this mean I have to start calling Paul Martin my head of state? And I don't think Adrienne Clarkson (our Governor-General, the 'voice of Her Majesty') would like that very much. . . .

It might not be �8 Million saved though, what would it do to the tourism, with people coming to see the family.
