Sat Jan 29, 2005 8:45 am Has anyone got a map of the 4 quadrents? |
|
Okay, when Kes leaves the ship voyager she transports them across the borg territory, that shaves about 10 years off their trip
In Dark Frountier The Voyager crew use a transwarp coil, until it is used up, that takes off about 15 years!
Im sure there are more instances where there are more years 'shaved' off, in the begging, it was originally a 75 year mission
75-15-10 =50, HOW BIG IS THE DELTA QUADRENT!!!!!

The Delta Quadrant is approximately 90,000Ly across. So are all of the other quadrants.
Voyager was Transported 70,000Ly

Borg space is bigger than that. It extends from at least system
J25 in the beta quadrant, 8,000LY from either Earth or the federation, to where voyager reached borg space in season 4, about 4,000LY from their journey starting point.

The writers are never consistent with the numbers, I wouldn't bother with trying to get it right because it can't be done.

True true. lol.
there is borg space in all quadrants. Well i not the alpha quadrant. But the borg have lots of different areas of spave which they control. Especially in the delta quadrant. They have borg space 2,000Ly into the delta quadrant, 30,000Ly into the delta quadrant and about 50,000 - 60,000Ly into the delta quadrant. And thats based on whats known from TNG and Voyager

the borg were only seen at the very begining of the pilot episode. Thats it. In season 5 Sisko mentions that starfleet is spread a little thin with the recent borg attack (Talking about First Contact) but thats it.

Well, looking at it from a mathematical perspective . . . assuming that the diabolical Federation Cartography Service has divided up the Milky Way into four nice equal parts, then the Delta Quadrant is one quarter of the Milky Way's area. The Milky Way is approximately 100 000 light-years in diameter, so:
r = 50 000
A = PI(r^2)
A = 3.14(50 000^2)
A = 3.14(2 500 000 000)
A = 7 853 975 000 light-years ^2
That would be the area of the Milky Way. Divide that by four, and you get:
1 963 493 750 light-years^2
Of course the galaxy isn't a perfect circle (and is in fact more like a flattened sphere), and it's not a static shape either, but the Federation Cartography Service isn't that accurate either
And Voyager took quite a few 'shortcuts'. Aside from Kes' help, and the transwarp coil, Voyager also shaved light-years off their journey when they stumbled across the 'underspace' or subspace slipstream portals in "Dragon's Teeth" (not sure about the episode name), as well as during the episode where they built a quantum slipstream drive.
Q gave Janeway a PADD with astronomical data that cut a few years off their journey. Once Pathfinder made contact with Voyager, I'm sure that Starfleet provided them with all data they had available on the Delta Quadrant. There are probably one or two other incidents when the ship was transported larger distances than normal, but I can't recall any more at the moment.

Voyager made a ton of shortcuts. What about in the 2 year long void too, they found the wormhole. I'm pretty sure they were meant to be in the BETA quadrant somewhere in season 7.

That's been pointed out several times before too . . . even looking at that map, Earth is at the extreme edge of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, so therefore Voyager also needed to cross the Alpha and Beta Quadrants as well . . . so in the show, when they said, "We're 30 000 light-years from Earth" . . . they probably really meant, "We're 30 000 light-years from the general vicinity of Earth, the Federation, and any chance of getting a good hamburger."

Yeah. In endgame they were roughtly 30,000Ly away. and most of the time when they say home that mean the federation.

there is a book called star charts and there is everything u want to know about how they organize the milky way(sectors,quadrants,grids,etc)and there is also a scale of each quadrant.U can also find detailed info on the route of uss voyager,and info about most of the worlds in alpha,delta and gamma quadrant each series has encountered
