PostWed Jan 12, 2005 4:26 pm    Bush didn't want to go to Vietnam? What?

Read this. From the recent CBS Report talking about the forged Documents one.

The Report wrote:
The clear inference from this excerpt is that President Bush was in the TexANG to avoid
service in Vietnam. Bush did state in his 1968 TexANG application that he did not volunteer to
go overseas. However, Mapes had information prior to the airing of the September 8 Segment
that President Bush, while in the TexANG, did volunteer for service in Vietnam but was turned
down in favor of more experienced pilots.72 For example, a flight instructor who served in the
TexANG with Lieutenant Bush advised Mapes in 1999 that Lieutenant Bush did want to go to
Vietnam but others went first. Similarly, several others advised Mapes in 1999, and again in
2004 before September 8, that Lieutenant Bush had volunteered to go to Vietnam but did not
have enough flight hours to qualify. The Panel is troubled that this excerpt was used when there
was information that contradicted, or at least weakened, the implication of the exchange between
Rather and Lieutenant Strong.

Yeah, but it WAS brought up by the Republicans, and what happened? "Let's not go there."

So Bush and Clinton both avoided Vietnam, just like practically all of the rest of the country. I don't see why people fight about this when it has no relevance today .

Bah, I think they all tryed to dodge Vietnam, the whole country was at the time anyways. I can't blame them either, I don't know how I would feel about going to Vietnam myself .

Either way, where is the relevance? I don't get why this crap keeps getting brought up oooooover and ooooover.

Yes, Clinton was, and that's why he didn't want to talk about it. But Bush didn't. And since the CBS report came out, I wanted to prove a point: that Bush DIDN'T dodge the draft.

True that. This was a dumb subject that was beat over the head by John Kerry. He flaunted his Purple Heart. Treating it like some trophy rather than a symbol of bravery. Makes me hate him all the more. The Dem kept bringing it up over and over and over. I for one am glad that this done and said.

Although you are right RM. Bush didn't dodge, but if he had I wouldn't have cared. This is not a qualification to be President! Despite what John Kerry says.

Well, if he had he would have been a coward in the eyes of soceity. Doesn't really fit with his cowboy-style leadership.

Bush is not a coward. Just because he didnt go to vietnam does not make him one. He is trying to protect us against terrorists.

Strangely, "protection from evil" was also Hitler's argument for killing Jews... (no parallel whatsoever, but whattheheck? let's fight)

Well sometimes that can not be helped. It is not the soldiers or the president. It is the terrorist fault.

Uh huh. So the poverty and destitution that results in war on a country are the fault of the terrorists....

And may I remind you that 9/11 was in NO WAY connected to Iraq.

I understand that we are picking up and rebuilding what we destroyed, that is our moral obligation at this point.

What I'm saying is that the war was UNFOUNDED and we went to Iraq on FALSE PRETENSES.

That's what I'm saying.

I love when people say "We are killing innocent Iraqis." Yet they never say anything about when Saddam was doing it. I guess its ok to be killed by a tyrant....
