Quote: | Newt Gingrich Open to Presidential Run
WASHINGTON (AP) - Newt Gingrich is taking steps toward a potential presidential bid in 2008 with a book criticizing President Bush's policies on Iraq and a tour of early campaign states.
The former House speaker who led Republicans to power a decade ago said he soon will visit Iowa and New Hampshire to promote his book, try to influence public policy and keep his political options alive.
"Anything seems possible," including a White House race, Gingrich told The Associated Press.
The quotable and controversial former Georgia congressman, who now runs a consulting firm in Washington, is promoting, "Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America." He seemed to welcome the thought that a book tour will increase speculation about his political aspirations.
"It never hurts to maximize opportunities. That's the American tradition," Gingrich said. "If I can influence the reporters and political activists in Iowa and New Hampshire, they will influence the candidates."
Asked if he might be a candidate himself, Gingrich said. "For an Army brat from Pennsylvania who became the only Georgia Republican in the House and the first Republican Speaker of the House in 40 years, anything seems possible. I don't think it's very likely. On the other hand, if I have an impact on public policy and do it in a way that is exciting and positive, why wouldn't I want to do that?" |
Gingrich-Rice? I hope so!

Good, I will vote for him if I like him. I hope he wins. I know it is too early but we don't need a democrat in office. they wont protect America.

That is ignorant. You wouldn't even listen to what the opposing party had to say? How do you know if you are making the best choice or not, to me that seems like a perverse abuse of our democratic rights. Also terrible that democrats themselves have been stereotyped as bad.

Why, that's why we have parties.
That vast majority of issues in one party are exactly the opposite of the vast majority of another's. If you have Republican standpoints, then the VAST MAJORITY of Republican cantidates will be right for you, and Vice-Versa.

If the run off was today I would still place my vote for Bush instead of Kerry, just because I don't have 100% positive things to say about the war in Iraq doesn't mean anything.
What is the point of democracy if it doesn't even matter who is running in office if you are only going to pay attention to one side anyways, and vote for a person who labels themselves Republican. Republicans, democrats, independents, and everyone has their same share of flaws, and maybe if we weren't so focused on hating a group of people because they don't agree with us, we would realize that, and that it doesn't mean that they aren't good. There has to be something in people, or there once was, even if it has been buried in corruption that wants to do what they think is right for their country, and wants their country to be better. But to call them demons...that seems harsh and very condemning.

It is not about rather or not they agree with me. I have christian values to go by and I will not take a democrat side of view. They believe in abortion and gay rights.
It is sick to even think about voting for a democrat maybe there is one descent democrat out there but not all.

Tss, and republicans are against gay rights and for capital punishment. That would be just as sickening if all Republicans thought that way. Fortunatly not everyone has the exact same set of beliefs in the Republican party, and I am sure the same holds true for Democrats.

Then don't post here, if you're going to say that in every topic,
Kevin's right. Why bother even voting, if you're not willing to even consider all the options fairly? Hey, he says he's a republican, we must vote for him! Who cares if we don't know anything about the person, Seems like a rather bad way of thinking.

We know they chose to be a Republican, which means that he GENERALLY stands for most of the same ideals as most Republicans. Yes there are outliers, but we learn about them as they get spotlight.

Strong views. Democrats aren't Demon, they're just distant relatives.
He isn't a flip flopper. His views changed obviously but he says hes still a Republican. We should just believe that. This is the reason why Democrats think we are Bush's tool. Because if we disagree with Bush then that means we flip flopped. There are something I disagree with too. Im not a flip flopper though. There are Democrats that support the War. Kerry used to support it but he switched his views to get more votes. So in essence we should look at both sides. I of course will tend to vote Republican. For many reasons namely the fact that Cubans get screwed over when a Democrat is in the White House. But if a Dem. offers something amazing and the Repib doesn't. I'll do for the Dem.

Generally, yes; but it depends on what's important to you. Who knows if that person has one liberal/democrat view, which perhaps is something that would make you not want to vote for that person. Just speaking in general.
And kmma, nobody is asking you to apologize. It just seems rather silly to say that every topic is boring.
