I'm sick of every scientific theory on everything. It's all scientists trying to get attention, and more important, government grants.

(Now I know why the church killed all the scientists in the middle ages. J/K)

Thats a very close minded view on it. If its a serious occurance, then its something that requires research and study.

Global warming is leading to an increased amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which not only block out visible light that you can see, but the essential life-giving heat energy. Most energy bounces back, what energy does get through has a hard time escaping again. Hence Earth might one day be like Venus. Not anytime soon, but the concerns raised by novels such as Stephen Baxter's Manifold series, and many of Ben Bova's space colonization series (Saturn, The Asteroid Wars) are indeed relevant to this generation and particularly the next few generations.

I don't even see Global Warming as an imminent threat, so I just see this "Global Dimming" thing as crap.

No, I think you mean to say Bush doesn't see it as an imminent threat. We know you have very few opinions of your own.

Which means, I'm sorry to say this, that you are very short-sighted. But , you just take your blue Bush-pill if you like to, and believe whatever you want to believe.
At least I, for my self, know we're all gonna die if nothing is done about all this pollution anytime soon.

You idiot! I have my OWN opinions, and I do NOT just believe in this President's! I for one am INSULTED with that comment.

No, I just so happen to have done my OWN research and DEBATED this issue in my class last year and WON. I do not see it as an imminent threat, and I am glad that President Bush did not sign that protocol!

PS: If I agreed with the President on everything, then I wouldn't BASH him on his HORRIFIC SPENDING and HORRIFIC IMMIGRATION POLICIES, for instance

Please, don't call people idots. I'm sure he may find that insulting, as well.

I don't percieve global warming as a real threat, unless you consider things caused by nature a threat that can be prevented. In truth, the temperature has only raised about 0.5 C in the last century, caused by simple nature.

Might be wrong.

The greenhouse effect itself is a natural occurrence and cycle that is part of the Earth's environment, yes. However humanity is having an increased impact on the world, especially through our use of fossil fuels.

But even if we aren't dramatically affecting global warming, the point is that we have to cease our dependence upon fossil fuels. Fossil fuels will not last forever, so we need alternate energy sources. One of these is hydrogen fuel cells, however in order to use them we'll need a lot of other stuff, such as palladium. Guess where you can get that (other than eBay )? The moon.

And if you think the moon's got stuff . . . that's nothing compared to what you'll find in the asteroid belt. At least plenty of iron and nickel, but there's an entire belt of precious resources out there to be exploited.

That reminds me, I need to start the APS (Asteroid Preservation Society) and get the president to sign the APA (Asteroid Preservation Act) before he realizes we can use them. I also need to form the LAPA (Lunar/Asteroid Preservation Alliance) with the Moon Rock Huggers Anonymous.

Hmm, yes, humanity is. However I read that it wasn't really enough to cause a large enough effect to be fully taken note of(as of yet, and I don't mean in the immediate future).

Well, there's been an increase the the amount of icebergs melting and breaking away from the Arctic and Antarctic shelves. This is causing problems in the shipping industry, and it's not too good for many of the arctic animals who hunt on the ice such as polar bears.

If you're that concerned, let's just kill off everyone. Don't we all give off methane, one of the key ingredients to this "threat?"

In SeaQuest DSV, cows were illegal because of the methane they put off!

Following that line of thinking, if humanity was not around the ecology would be way better. Most of our wars have devestated something or other, not to mention mining, agriculture, et cetera

But no, killing off the humans is not the answer, just like going back to live in the Dark Ages is not the answer to the 'threat' of technology The answer is to slowly wean ourselves off this dependence upon fossil fuels (and other 'unclean' energy sources) and develop methods of viably using clean energy sources. Nuclear fusion, wind power, and solar power seem the most potentially viable ones next to hydrogen cells, but the main reason we aren't using them today is because no one's developed a process that won't wreck our economy

I don't advocate that we suddenly all switch over to using clean energy. I like my energy-sucking computers (4 of them) and my energy-sucking television. But we should at least be more actively pursuing ways of cleaner living. I'm bugging my parents to take the One-Tonne Challenge (this Canadian thing . . . )

You really need to do research and while your at it try not to listen to those biased opinions in your head.

Global Warming IS an important issue. If you dont think it is, I suggest you re-look at the evidence.

- Since 1995 the Antarctice iceshelf (The Larsen A) has receeded almost 770 square miles.

- In 1 year the Larson B and Wilkin's iceshelfs had 1550 square miles collapse.

- The Texas heatwave of 1998 that claimed more then 100 lives

- Chesepeake Bay has seen a loss of 1/3 of it's marshland at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.

- Alaskian Permafrost is melting

This is only a small percentage of what is actully happening. If you dont think Global Warming is an issue then you are just deluding yourself

don't call someone short-sighted, you have no idea what that means.
In a way you can't be short-sighted at all because you simply don't know anything.

Of course, one day the earth will be unlivable for humans, perhaps because of Heat, perhaps of Oxygen shortage but it doesn't really matter. We won't be here, we are not the one that have too be concerning about this, we will survive this bullsh*t. Over a couple of 1000 years perhaps people will have too worry about their future, or perhaps evolution might have already stepped in. We are not the ones that should worry about it and we should not care, its not short-sighted or short-minded too think that way.

Sorry if i'm not clear enough about what my opinion is. Its very hard too translate.

I'm all for shifting to other sources of fuel. I'm not against that.

And Link, I HAVE done my own research. I had to do it for a debate, and I WON it. And I didn't expect to win it. I do not see it as a grave threat.

then we should debate. I'd like to see your research and how you won seeing as how the evidence is stacked against you.
