PostMon Jan 17, 2005 4:20 am    Batman Begins

This movie I believe stars Micheal Keaton and it is about how Batman got started as a superhero.

My opinion don't watch the movie when it comes out because I know it and you all know it, its not going to be a good movie.

This is about the new Batman movie?

I thought they hired an other actor then Micheal Keaton who played in Batman and Batman returns.

I thought Christian Bale was the new Batman??

In either case, I havn't seen much of it but from what I've seen the Batmobile looks a bit dodgy - mind you I'm not particularly a fan of Batman nor comic books in general.

I've checked on www.imdb.com and it is apparently Bale who is the new Batman.

Actually, what makes Batman a 'superhero' - what 'super powers' does he have other than a few gadgets?

I think Batman Begins will be awesome, but I also think that Warner Brothers should shut their traps and let John Fiorella make a full motion picture version of Grayson so he wont have to stick to his short fan film trailers.

Watch the Grayson fan film trailer here! It rocks!

Don't worry, I hadn't heard of him either lol. Apparently he was in Equilibrium, Reign of Fire and Shaft (the version with Samuel L. Jackson in) but I can't put a face to his name.

Christian Bale is best known for his role in American Psycho.

I've never actually seen that film. At least I know what he looks like now, cheers Founder - I didn't realise that was him in Shaft.

I think Equilibrium was in cinemas but I never saw it - I think the DVD release was more hyped-up than the actual cinema release - well I didn't see much pertaining to a cinema release, put it that way.

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell made you think Michael Keaton was in Batman Begins.

Didn't Bale also play in American Psycho if it was him that was a good role.

I can't believe no one else has reviewed this yet... I just went to see it tonight.

IMO, this is the best of the Batman movies yet. Christian Bale was awesome, not to mention his all star cast of Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Katy Holmes. I do like Katy Holmes as leading ladies... I don't know what it is about her. Anyway...

Not only was it awesomely action packed- fist fighting, sword fighting, shoot outs, explosions, cool wreckless driving sequences... but it actually had a good plot and *gasp* dare we say it for recent movies... good dialogue. The great thing about Batman Begins was that it wasn't cheesy. Not in a Mr. Freeze kind of way. It was realistic to the point of superhero movies being realistic... and made you remember why Batman is the best of all the action heroes.

Dare I say it... I give it a better rapport than Revenge of the Sith. You know a movie is good when you can say that it was completely awesome the first time you saw it, not the 13th.

A

I saw it opening day and yestererday, I simply forgot this topic existed. It was a good movie, but not without its problems. Action packed? Yes. But the fighting was bad because of the camera angle. It was so in the character's faces, that you couldn't see what was going on.

I saw it the 19th and thought it was good. Can't compare it to any of the other Batman movies because haven't seen them.

I watched Batman Begins yesterday. It was very, very good. It is as good as the 1978 Superman movie. That movie was the definitive Superman movie. This is the definitive Batman movie. The director has grasped the concept of how to film a superhero movie, in my opinion.

Prior to watching this movie, Michael Keaton had been my favourite Batman. He still is. However, this Batman movie is in a league of it's own, it's unlike nothing that has come before. It truly was a reboot and I can't praise it enough. Despite two flaws (which I'll get to later), it was still a film that did justice to the Dark Knight. If you liked the graphic novels "The Dark Knight Returns" or "Batman: Year One", you'll like this movie.

FEAR - that was Batman's original intention when he made his debut in 1939. In his early adventures, Batman took no prisoners. He was a ruthless vigilante, not trusted by the law. There was no Robin to brighten things up. Bruce Wayne was a troubled soul. This movie was true to the spirit of the original character. Christian Bale was excellent in the role and you really believed he wanted to do nothing but kick ass.

Unlike any Batman movie that has came before, this movie deals with Batman's origin in depth, from the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne to Bruce Wayne training to the peak of physical perfection to Wayne returning to Gotham City. It's at least 45 minutes before we see Batman on-screen but that's not a complaint. The 1978 Superman movie was very good but Superman didn't make an appearance until about 40 minutes into the movie. And, believe me, Batman appearing 45 minutes into the movie had far more of an impact than if he had swung from the rooftops just after the opening credits.

The supporting cast play their roles well but they NEVER overshadow Bale's performance of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Morgan Freeman does a good job as Lucius Fox, one of my favourite supporting characters from the comics. Gary Oldman plays perhaps his best role ever as Lt. Gordon (not yet Commissioner) and one of the best parts of the movie is the beginning of the Batman/Gordon relationship. Michael Caine is very good as Alfred. Alfred was always a mentor to Bruce in the comics and Caine reflects that here - believe me, Alfred does more than make tea in this movie.

There are three villains in this movie and I'm not sure whether that is a blessing or a curse. There's Ras Al Ghul, who plays a very small role, and The Scarecrow (one of my faves), and Carmine Falcone, a crimelord from the comics. I can't really go into great detail about who the main villain is or what his plan is, because I'd have to reveal major spoilers. Whilst all the actors perform well, having three villains on-screen means they don't get the time that they deserve - I certainly would have liked to have seen more screentime for The Scarecrow. When Scarecrow sprayed his fear gas around, there were some pretty disturbing scenes, hence the reason why the film got a 12A certificate (in the UK). Anyway, the actors who play the three main villains do well with what they're given and that's all one can ask.

Katie Holmes plays Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne's love interest. Like the others, she does well with what she's given but I wish she had had more screentime. Still, she had screen presence and played a believable role.

I can't talk about some of the other supporting actors because to even give them a cursory mention could reveal plot points and I don't wish to spoil it for anyone.

The action scenes I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, there are a lot of good action scenes in here (not all of them CGI) but some of them are "too fast", meaning it's not always easy to see who's hitting who. Also, some of the action takes place in too much darkness. Of course, no-one wants to see Batman fighting in the daylight but this is a criticism I have of the movie and one that a lot of other viewers have. Hopefully, the director will take it on board. Overall, the action is pretty good and there's a balance between action and drama.

The Dark Knight is back - I had to say that. The franchise has a future IF Bale returns to the role, because one thing that harmed the previous franchise was having three actors in eight years. Also, for the film to succeed, it needs to keep to it's dark, apocalyptic roots and not give in to the temptation to go down the "campy route" just to keep the kiddies and the toy merchandisers happy. And, there needs to be NO Robin. I like Robin as a solo hero but I've always questioned whether the movie Batman needs a Robin.

On a final note, the ending of the film was satisfying and the director did a good job of setting up a sequel, which I hope happens. You see, the ending hinted at an appearance by a major Batman villain in a potential sequence. After seeing what I've seen in the movie, a sequel featuring THAT villain would be very good indeed - I hope it happens.

I just saw the movie.

I really liked it.
There was a small problem with the Camera angles during the fight scenes but other than that I liked it. But isn't there already a sequel to it?

(If you know what I mean)

This is the best movie I've seen since LOTR. It's the whole package. Plot, effects, humor, action... a bit of a love interest thingy.

It's my Movie of the Year so far. (Well, Movie of the Half-Year). It's the Total Package that I liked and even the flaws only slightly detracted from the film.

Roll on sequel - but keep Robin out of it.
