On TNG Guinan has lived on earth since the Mark Twain era of the 1900s. But on Generations Guinan first arrived on Earth after being rescued from a refugee ship in the Kirk Era. So basically the timeline got messed up.

Not exactly. She fled her homeworld to escape her father or something like that and hid on Earth. After a while she left and returned to her world. Then the Borg attacked and she was rescued by Kirk. I think thats how it went down. Anyone with more knowledge want to help?

I was under the impressions that she visited earth around the time of Mark Twain, and then left.

Of course, I could be wrong. I haven't seen an episode of TNG in a long time.

She comes from an advanced race, think about it. The second she heard the word starship she knew exactly what it was.
