ST Voyager: Spirit Walk.

I just got the first of the Spirit Walk books. I'm not all the way through it yet seeing as I got it today, but it's actually quite good, a bit too much of Chakotay in my opinion, but well written.

Yep, I got through the first short part fine, but the rest of the book is just...I kinda flipped through the pages and saw small bits of Janeway and a bit of Kim. Not really much about anyone besides Chakotay.

hey.. but the second book will be less about him. because it's something like... Chakotay gets kidnapped or something. that means... it'll be about everyone but Chakotay. which will be a nice change of pace.

OK, i decided what I don't like about Spirit Walk besides the fact that it's all about Chakotay. Christie Golden threw way too much of her own personality into Libby. It's really annoying because when I read the parts about LIbby, it's really kind of obvious that Christie Golden was lkind of like "well, if I was her, this is what I'd be thinking about". It's like... Chaucer and Castine... what? You write what you know, you know? Plus Libby's character in the book is just sort of out of whack with the characterization of any Trek-type character, be it starfleet or civilian. I just realized that last night.

. See, I never thought that, but now that I think back on her other books, she does the exact same thing in all of them. It's kind of annoying.

Well Christie Golden is my favorite author, actually. *runs somewhere far away*. I'm about half way through the first book and so far, it's pretty good. I liked Chakotay well enough. He wasn't my favorite, buy not my least favorite either. I agree Traim on the fact that Libby was way to out there for this book. I almost all of Homecoming and Farther Shore very much exept her character. But what book doesn't have something negative about it?But that's about the only complaint I have so far. About Spirit walk or Homecoming and Farther Shore.

I encourage all to buy it. It really is wonderfully written.

Can never get enough of Chakotay. He is the best and the most gorgeous man on Startrek in my opinion

OK... huh. These books, especially the second one, turend out to be a lot worse than I thought they would be- which is a bad thing, considering I already thought they would be incredibly lame (indians? sky spirits? seriously...)

Oh, Christie Golden? You should have stopped while you were ahead.

Yeah... there was only one good chapter in the second book- Chapter 18. But before that and after that it was like... "Oh... nobody likes indians" And then she left it wide open for a next book, naturally, by introducing some new idea into the story at the very end... no, two things... and then not even resolving them a little bit. That annoyed me. Because of course I'm going to read the next books, but you don't add something completely new and different into the end of your two-part story-line. That's just dumb.

And what's more, the characters are all very out-of-character. Saying things they would never actually say. Like that very last paragraph B'Elanna says. I mean... who even talks like that? And did anyone else catch a sense of a bit of Paris/Chakotay slash? Nasty. They never even liked eachother. Anyway... It was a good... structure... or... idea... I guess. But it was a little too qweer for me. (yes, I know I spelt that wrong, but otherwise is bleeps it out)

Other than Chakotay, are there other Voyager characters in Spirit Walk?

They're all in it, but Chakotay takes about 80% of the storyline. See, I was under the assumption that the second book would be about Tom going to save the day and I thought... cool, something besides indians. But there was about a chapter dedicated to that part of the story.

I thought the first one was great, Im getting ready to go and buy the second right now. I enjoy the series. Especially the interlude about Be'lanna on Boreth. Great planet.

If anyone's read the first Enterprise "Daedalus" book, would you say that it is like that in the fact that while other characters are expressed, only one is focused on?

I love Native American culture and Mystic Warrior (starring Robert Beltran) is my "absolute all-time no questions asked" favourite movie.

HOWEVER, like a lot of you, Chakotay as a character is very dull and his spirit walks really should be kept to himself. I saw both books and didn't buy them - which says a lot considering I only read Voyager books. I loved Homecoming and Farther Shore but these seem tedious.

I was gonna just buy the second book, but after reading your comments, I don't think I'll bother.

Bottom line... Christie Golden should've done some market research and realised Voyager fans want more group action (no dirty comments boys 'n' girls).

They only seem boring to those who are not really interested in it or don't like him. I find myself very interested in it. My husband bought the book at the px in Iraq and he is going to mail it to me. I can not wait to read it.
