As some of you know, I am apolitical. What that means for me is that I claim no allegiance to any political party or theory. I believe most people want the same thing - money, security, health, a future for their kids, freedom.
This tsunami/earthquake has been a disaster. What does please me though is the fact that the world is united in their grief for the dead ones and families of dead ones. Conservative or liberal, capitalist or socialist - everyone cares and people want to know how they can help.
The world can work together when a natural disaster causes death and destruction. It's a pity that it takes events like this to unite people of all creeds and nationalities.
I've said it before on this forum. If you were to fly above the Earth in a spacecraft, you can't tell where one country begins and another ends. There are no visible borders. If only the world could think like that. You know, we could all have a wonderful future, learning, meeting people, facing challenges, bettering ourselves. There could be real peace, there are enough resources for everyone, enough food and drink for ALL people.
If the world was united, we could be better prepared to deal with threats such as natural disasters, comets and the like. At the end of the day, flags and country names aside, we are just ONE world.
I'll leave this post with a quote by Dwight Eisenhower. I can't remember it word-for-word but it went something like this...
"There will be peace when the people of the world want it so badly that their governments are going to have no choice but to give it to them."
Apologies if this sounds like a corny post (someone at work said it sounded corny) but I just felt like saying it.

That's one thing that drives me most. There was this little segment about the Apollo missions that they play between TV shows occasionally on the Space channel, about how the first pictures of the Earth from space sort of reminded people that we really are all in this together. And it was kind of cool.
And yes, your post did sound corny, but then again a lot of things are considered corny these days that shouldn't be. I'm sure that the 'politically correct' thing to do would be to stop using the word 'corny' since it offends corn or any food products based upon corn, and we wouldn't want that . . .

Right. Then, politicization, like the Democrats have done, occurs which divides us worse.

Now your horribly generalizing again.
Politicalization happens on ALL sides. Republican, Democrat and Independant, Green party, The list goes on. No one single party is more at fault then the other.
It's talk like that, that drives the wedge further and divides us even more.

Yeah, you're right. Sorry. However, the Democrats ARE the ones politicizing our National Security ALOT more. But I shouldn't have brought all this up, so let's stop talking about that.

Shame Republicans and Democrats can not get along. THey have to fight like little immature babies  Not referring to anyone on the board. It is truth. People won't come together really cause people are too busy argueing who is right and who is wrong.

You like Star Trek, I like Star Trek. We have peace. Why is it always politics or land, etc that people unite by? Why can't it be movies? Huh? Am I right?

I was almost sick today. At work today there were some of the cooks that work there looking at a newspaper which had a picture of one of the 30ft waves and people being swept away by it. And they were laughing.

That's just sick. Some guy at my work tried to make a joke. I had to walk away otherwise I would have punched him to the ground.
A lot of famous people are putting their hands in their pockets and donating cash which pleases me. One of those is Allan Leighton, Chairman of Royal Mail. I haven't been kind about him in the past when I've criticized his management of Royal Mail but an event like this proves that we are the same when it comes to some things in life. Whatever my views on his management of the postal service, his donation has transcended all that.

A little offtopic, but none of you guys have never joked around with anything that involved lots of people dieing? I find myself doing it, when it's something that's been a while ago and my feelings aren't as strong about anymore.
