That's not the reason why. Just media spin.

The UK government has been made to up their aid amount to 50 million pounds ($96 million). Here's just a quick list of what's been pledged.
Quote: | World Bank: $250m
UK: $96m
Sweden: $75m
Spain: $68m
China: $60m
France: $56m
EU $44m
Netherlands: $36m
US: $35m
Canada: $33m
Japan: $30m
Australia: $27m
Switzerland: $23m
Norway: $16.6m
Denmark: $15.6m
Saudi Arabia: $10m
Taiwan: $5.1m
Finland: $3.4m
Kuwait: $2.1m
UAE: $2m
Source: Reuters, United Nations |
The death toll is currently around 124,000 (BBC News). There are worries that more than that will be killed by disease, as that is what commonly occurs during these sorts of natural disasters. I cannot put it into words how I felt about this.

sweden aid with more then twice as much as the us? *shake head*
But my biggest suprice is that germany isn't on that list.
Gah! And I still can't understand that a ten metre high wave... has killed more then 100'000 people. I've never experience waves bigger then... a metre or so... and that was big!
I heard about a norweigen guy who was staying at a hotel and he got draged right throught the whole hotel! Fron one side to the other going through the resturang down in the pool, up again, right througt a whole building!
And the heat... and 100'000 dead people... doesn't sould like a very good match. And the SAND! All the people that must have been burried...
I just feel lucky (and kinda bad for feeling that), because I didn't knew anyone who got killed down there.

Together 913,5 million including Germany and Giro 555. Thats a lot.
The ibggest problem on the moment is that all those people who have lost someone want seperate burials for their lost ones. But thats just impossible. It would bring Diseases for sure, they should all put them in one big Mass grave as fast as possible or else the death toll will rise too unimaginable counts.

Now, when you look at the money the US government is giving, and you complain that it's "low" or whatever, that's just crap because we're not just giving money. The FIRST DAY we gave over a thousand troops, airplanes, and supplies. And we've continued to do that.

No, that's not why. That's just media spin. However, we don't need to give that much. We're doing TONS of aide already.
? What does that mean?

Well tons of aid is what we need to do. I mean 350million worth of aid should help extremely well for those who needs it.
Don't tell me this is too much because many towns and villages were wiped out by the tsunami so this 350million dollar aid can be used to not only provide food, medicine, and clean water but for things like rebuilding destroyed town and villages.
On the plus note lots of money means more goods can be shipped into the areas hardest hit. In the long run it is a big life saver.

Yeah, you're right. It's not too much, but it wasn't NECESSARY to RAISE our money that much, but it's not too much.

Man, and I'm going to Hawaii in February for a week. And they're on the plates as well. Idk if I want to go now |
It probably shouldn't be so bad as there is a tsunami warning system in the Pacific as they are a lot more common there. That was why people weren't prepared, it is the first ever big wave in the Indian Ocean.
I know it doesn't make a huge different, but these are tsunami's, not tidal waves. Tidal waves are ones affected by the tide, and usually happen twice a day.

Umm, Indonesians and Indians are primarily Hindus, and Buudhists, not Muslims, if that's what you're referring to, and even so, not all muslims are like that.

Dude your an a**hole. First of all stop making fun of others religions. Second if you weren't such an ignorant piece of trash you would know this happened in South Asia. Not the Middle East. Most are Hindu and Bhuddist like memyselfandI said. They aren't terrorist and half of them don't even give a sh*t about this war. You know what saddens me? Good people die and yet you live....
Yes yes I know im going to get warned. Bring on the warning. It was worth it.

But I am not saying this guy was right in his statement, but in Indonesia they are primarily Muslims.
His statement was asinine though.

You know, in the late 1800s another Tsunami Disaster happened and the Dutch, ruling the area, wouldn't help. But then they decided to help. However, the Indonesians and other Muslims in that region (radical) pushed a political agenda to start a Jihad against the Dutch because of this, which they did. Even after they helped. Don't know if it applies now, but just a little history.
