Yea... we're keeping in contact with a few people that we know who are in Thailand, just to make sure things are alright. I guess they think there might be a second one coming due to aftershocks.

Yup. It just made me think about how easily things can be turned upside down. I mean, no one could have suspected that this would happen.

The good thing is, is that the US and Hawaii and a lot of other countries have very good alert systems for an earthquake warning. I think the UN Is going to start installing the system into Thailand and the Asian countries that were devasted by this quake.

Here are some site if any of yall are interested in learning about how to help out the families of dead, and those left homeless by this disaster.

http://www.redcross.org/ (To help those effected by this, donate to the: International Response Fund)

http://www.catholicrelief.org/

http://www.directrelief.org/index.html

http://www.ajws.org/

http://www.wfp.org/

http://www.opusa.org/

And just a short update:

Quote:
BANDA ACEH, Indonesia (CNN) -- The "putrid stench of the dead" hung heavily Tuesday over Banda Aceh as officials slowly came to grips with the devastation caused by a massive underwater earthquake and the equally massive tsunami that followed it.

More than two days after the 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the westernmost portion of Indonesia's northern Sumatra Island, the official death toll stands at over 33,000.

But that number could be deceiving. Officials could not reach some remote areas, like Indonesia's Aceh province, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Maldives, until Tuesday, and once there, they found scenes much worse than they imagined.

"The center of Banda Aceh has been absolutely devastated," said CNN's Mike Chinoy from the capital of Aceh province. "There are still bodies lying in the street."

Indonesian officials in Jakarta told CNN the death count in that country was about 5,000, but other officials, after seeing Aceh, told reporters the toll would be significantly higher, likely approaching 30,000.

If that is true, the final toll inflicted by the disaster will swell over 60,000.

FoxNews says 55,000 now. I'm glad I don't know anyone over there but I'll still pray for the people who are over there. Sucks bigtime.

Yeah, there's 60,000 at MSNBC and still 55,000 at FoxNews. MSNBC's probably closer, it's been rising constantly ever since it started.

Yes... I've seen some pretty grewsome pictures. They had one of a beach and all you saw were tourists in the sand dead. It's so sad...

I heard something about a train with 1,500 people on it that got smashed by a wave and everyone on it died. I really never knew how powerful a tidal wave could be. There was also something about a ship being washed ashore by it.

Tidal waves can be very VERY powerful. Just think of the undercurrent in the ocean. That can completely tear a ship apart if it gets caught in it. A tidal wave, just a massive wall of water, yea... that can do some major damage.

Right, like in Day after Tomorrow where that ship comes floating down the street. There's a risk of a cholera, malaria outbreak too. That could kill as many as the wave itself.

With all the dead corpses rotting in the water where no one can find them and the dead animals, they say that disease is going to take the casuality number and probably double it. It's so sad...

There has to be a new volcano under the sea near the main earthquake zone. Because a 5minute 9.0 quake just dont happen unless some thing like a new volcano is forming.

They're saying that there might be an earthquake along the Western Seaboard of the US because that region is located on the same plates. Since there has been such a disturbance along there, there might be some activity for the US as well.

Man, and I'm going to Hawaii in February for a week. And they're on the plates as well. Idk if I want to go now
