PostThu Dec 23, 2004 6:35 pm    Any fans of WWF here?

Are there any fans of the WWF here? I wanted to post a topic but I thought it best to see if there are more than a few fans here.

I've been watching WWF since about 1986 and have kept up with it since then. I drifted away slightly during the 1998-1999 period but I've seen it all. The Hulk Hogan Era. The Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels Era. The Stone Cold Steve Austin Era. The Triple H Era. I was also a big fan of promotions such as NWA/WCW and the USWA.

I wanted to post a topic asking what people would like to see on Raw and Smackdown! in 2005. So, let me know if you are a fan and maybe we can talk.

Oh, I know the WWF is now called WWE and has been since mid-2002. But I hated the name change and the reasons for it. As far as I'm concerned, it's WWF and not WWE. That's why I call it WWF.

I'm not a big fan of pro wrestling. Mostly because I'm involved with folkstyle wrestling, and I know the true fundamentals of real wrestlin, which isn't just beating each other up.

I only like the true WWF, with a big show and lots of stuff going on...
I see the wresteling as theatre, a show, entertainment.

I hate the amatuer wresteling, where they intentionally make eachother bleed and think that thats the way wresteling goes. They are just stupid.

You haven't seeen good wrestling until you see a good folkstyle, freestyle, or Grecco Roman match.

Did you read the first post?

No, I don't really like wrestling. About 5 years ago I was friends with quite a few people who liked it so I tried watching it but didn't find it very entertaining.

Then what are you doing in this topic?

You better leave before I put a painful submission move on you.

I like amateur wrestling too. I wish it had more mainstream coverage. There is so much skill involved and you truly have to be the best to beat the odds. I am glad that many amateur wrestlers like Kurt Angle and Shelton Benjamin made the transition to showbiz sports entertainment.

Did you read my first post, Amy?

Originally, the WWF was the WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation) which wasn't too bad. The WWF were forced to change their name in 2002 after a legal battle with the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). In mid-2003, the WWF became WWE as they were no longer allowed to use the WWF logo.

But for me, they will always be the WWF. I think it sounds better. World Wrestling Federation summed it up perfectly, World Wrestling Entertainment just doesn't have the same ring to it. Of course, it is the product that is important but I will always call it WWF.

On a similar note, I refuse to refer to Personnel as Human Resources at my workplace. To me, it's Personnel which sounds better. Human Resources sounds ridiculous. But I've gone off-topic.

It's not as entertaining as it was. In the 80's/early 90's, it was a very clean-cut form of entertainment. Everything was black and white, you had your heroes like Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior and you had your villains like King Kong Bundy and Earthquake. Nowadays, there are more shades of grey. And, unlike years past, it's very "adult" now with a lot of
T & A, extreme violence and swearing. It's not a form of entertainment for kids.

I do watch it and some aspects of it are entertaining. But I'd rather delve into my collection of 80's videos.

I really stopped watching it when the all good time wrestlers like stone cold and the rock left.

I'd like to see a lot more coverage of amateur wrestling too. I could learn a lot from it. Basically all I do now, when I wrestle for my high school, is muscle people around, because I'm really strong for my weight class, and don't know that much. Quite honestly, if I could learn even a little bit more, I'd be really good.

Well, good luck with it. They don't do wrestling in high school here in Britain, at least not when I attended (I left in the 80's).

I think amateur wrestling will have a higher profile. The wrestlers I mentioned earlier are helping to raise the profile. In fact, I believe wrestling may be coming full circle. For five years, the WWF has been more soapy, a lot more T & A and more entertainment. But, subtly, technical wrestling is making a comeback and I believe people want a return to scientific wrestling.

Sure, people still want the T & A and the soapy aspects but scientific wrestling has it's place too.

In my opinion, there is nothing better than two mat wrestlers telling a story in that ring through technical wrestling.

You would be better though if you learned martial arts...

Actually, I do have a small backround in martial arts, just stuff that friends have taught me on the side. Wrestling though, is like a martial art in itself. All the fundamentals, different moves, stances, stuff like that.

But that's what makes it so good. Chair shots to the head, people being put through tables, wrestlers taking blows that would kill any "normal" person. Ah, I love wrestling.

Merry Christmas, folks.
