PostSun Dec 12, 2004 7:22 pm    The Next Best Thing (2000)

Ah, one of my favourite movies is on UK TV on Wednesday 15th December. It is of course The Next Best Thing, starring the lovely Madonna and Rupert Everett. It's on BBC1 on the 15th December at 11.30pm.

Abbie (Madonna) ends up in bed with her gay friend Robert (Rupert Everett) and, before you know it, she is pregnant with his child. She then ends up with Ben (Benjamin Bratt) who takes the baby away.

It's a good film. It was released as a comedy but it's more of a drama for me, at the beginning there is a bit to laugh at but the rest of the film is not funny in my opinion. But still, it's a good movie. Madonna is one of my favourite singers. As for her acting skills, she's never going to be the best but she's made the transition well, although her best ever movie was 1985's Desperately Seeking Susan.

I'll be watching The Next Best Thing - will you?

Oh, for those that may be interested, there are quite a few scenes of Madonna's bare feet in the movie.

It sounds like it would be a good movie, but a last I can not watch it. I live in America and we do not get this BBC1 channel So, I will watch other television shows Wednesday night . Otherwise, this sounds very good.

Hey, friend, it's now Monday. You have enough time to get to an airport, catch a flight to the UK and find a home to watch the movie in.

Good luck.

Do it, Captain. Purely for the experience.

Word of advice. Public transport over here is dire - if you need to get anywhere, hitch a ride with a camel. It'll be faster than our ridiculously slow railway system.

Perhaps a camel would be more efficient .

If only you knew how bad our railways were. Delays are institutional, there has been a lack of investment for years, privatization DIDN'T work and worse, our railways are run by clueless individuals who care only about their very high salaries.

A camel will get you where you're going much quicker.
