Fri Dec 10, 2004 7:38 pm Enterprise UK Video Petition |
|
I have made a petition to try and bring back ENTERPRISE videos to the UK. Only the first season was brought out over here and now they have all been withdrawn so it is now not possible to buy enterprise videos (from a shop) in this country.
Here is the link to the petition. Everybody please sign it. Thanks

Well, my friend, I can't see it happening. DVD's are the future.
The VHS's only had two episodes on them and were released on a semi-regular basis. With a forthcoming season boxset, I can't see this petition having any weight.
As you know, videos take up more space on a shelf - I have all 89 cassettes of TNG released in the 90's. ENT videos would take up space too and with two episodes on each tape, not many people would collect them.
I sympathize, my friend, but I don't see such a petition having any impact.

I'm sure it will come out over here eventually. In fact, it's certain. Not as soon as the American releases but Paramount will release it in the UK. Failing that, you could even import it (sometimes cheaper) from the US.
Let me know if you require any help.

Quite simply, they'll release the first season on DVD. If that sells (and it will), subsequent seasons will sell. Some things just sell like Trek and Star Wars.
Believe me, Enterprise will be on DVD eventually (all seasons). I know what it is like to anxiously await something, just try and be patient. I'm still waiting for the Animated Series to get a release, that probably won't happen until 2006. Such a long wait!

Neither can I honestly see them bringing Enterprise onto VHS - the VHS market, as I see it, cannot hope to compete with DVD - leading High Street retailer Dixons recently announced it's intent to stop selling VCRs completely, for example.
It would seem that, generally, video has had it's day.
In the long-run DVDs are cheaper - 13 videos a season at roughly 12.99 each = 168.87. Whilst the RRP of DVD boxsets are a (IMO steep) 84.99, many shops retail them for around 50 each.
So for the price of a season on VHS, you could buy a DVD player and the same season.
As for releasing Enterprise on DVD in the UK, Amazon already has Season 1, 2 and 3 available for pre-order. Type in 'Enterprise' under the 'DVD' section of www.amazon.co.uk to see what I mean, as well as the various release dates for the boxsets.

The reason I asked your age is because I wondered when exactly you would have seen The Animated Series. I've been trying to find out when it last aired on terrestrial TV in the UK. Maybe late 70's/early 80's, I think.
