I hate trendy "teen comedies" like American Pie, Road Trip, etc.

I'd have to say all movies that are sequels of original movies (Matrix Reloaded, etc.) with the exception of the Lord of the Ring movies...all other sequels are usually never as good as the original movies were, but for some reason Lord of The Rings was. Anyway, all sequel movies (except Lord of the Ring ones) are what I dislike.

Most likely, all sequels to me are never as good as the first original movie ((except the Lord of the Rings movies as I said before .)) They always try to be as good as the original and end up stinking.

Does that include all nine Trek sequels?

Star Trek V was a travesty that should have been dematerialized and fed to a targ. That's one of my most disliked movies.

In some ways, you're right, although I do think good sequels exist.

I think the best sequels are the ones where the story is a natural continuation of the first movie. Superman II was a natural continuation, with Superman and Lois Lane's relationship developing, plus Superman having to deal with the exiled villains from the first movie.

Spider-Man 2 was also very good in my opinion because, again, it was a natural continuation with the focus on Peter and Mary Jane's relationship and the evolution of Peter as a superhero.

Where I don't think sequels work is when they are just rehashes of their predecessors and where more of the same is served up.

Have you seen the Child's Play movie from 1988, starring the killer doll Chucky? That was a good movie, very scary and a good story. But the sequels were just more of the same, it was more of a case of the producers just wanting to make more money by rehashing elements of the first movie. The sequels, to me, were just comedic rehashes of the first movie and had little continuity.

So, I think sequels only work if there is a story to tell or a natural continuation and not if they're just more of the same.

The first one was good but the last two could have been written by a drunken hobo.
