Mr. Freeze

Just checking out IMDB.com, specifically the movie Batman & Robin. And it turns out that Patrick Stewart was considered for the role of Mr. Freeze.

I do think the movie itself is passable entertainment, although I don't think anything can beat the Michael Keaton movies from 1989 and 1992. Arnie played Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin. Like I said, it was passable entertainment but it could have been better.

Stewart would have made a good Freeze. I have seen Stewart play villainous roles in his career and he can do them just as good, if not better, than anyone. I believe he would have successfully captured the cold (pun intended) portrayal of Mr. Freeze.

Isn't this IMDB an interesting thing, eh?

It pertains to Patrick Stewart, a member of the TNG crew. It's not strictly Star Trek-related but I'm not the first person to post a tenuous topic about one of the cast. I just thought it was interesting information.

No offence but I wasn't too happy with your reply, especially as you're not a moderator. I don't want to fall out with you because I do enjoy reading your posts but I wasn't happy with your reply.

Oh, and you don't have to fear me. But I have a message for the forum. My dental appointment book is ALWAYS open but my methods are very unorthodox. ANYBODY with bad teeth will pay a heavy price, I will remove their teeth one by one with the aid of a screwdriver-very PAINFUL.

Just so we're keeping on topic, do you think Patrick Stewart would have made a good Mr. Freeze?

Patrick Stewart would have been wonderful. He reminds me of the cartoon version of Mr. Freeze a lot. Arnold is good but wasn't in this movie. The Batman movies have become to comical. Batman One and Two had serious undertones. They made Gotham look dark and evil and Goth like. While their hero hid in the shadows and was covers in black he would ironically be their shining beacon of light for a better tomm. Now it seems like Gotham is a joke.

The first two Batman films are brilliant, I think Tim Burton really brought Batman full circle, returning him to his dark roots. Because, even in 1989, peoples memories of Batman were of the camp 60's show.

If you ask me, Batman Returns was perfect. Michael Keaton captured the dual role of the character very well.

Batman Forever and Batman & Robin were too campy IMO. Val Kilmer never seemed right for the role of Batman. George Clooney did a pretty good job but could only succeed with a better script. Judged on their own merits, the latter two films are campy fun but not at all true to the spirit of the original Batman, a dark character.

Getting back to Patrick Stewart, I saw him play a villainous role in a film called Mastermind. I think his voice alone could have carried the part of Mr. Freeze.

I've been trying to look for Mastermind on DVD for some time now but can't seem to get it. Indeed, Patrick's voice is incredible.

As to whether Mr. Stewart would have been a good Mr. Freeze, I don't know. Mr. Freeze needed to be a huge man in my opinion. That alone puts Arnold Schwarzenegger well ahead of Patrick Stewart. When it comes down to their acting abilities, I'm sure most of you will agree with me that Patrick Stewart is a far better actor.

All in all, I think Arnold did a good job playing Mr. Freeze.

I don't think Mastermind is available on DVD yet, Oliver. Do you live in the UK at all because I think Channel 5 has the rights to it and have shown it twice in the past few years. If you do live in the UK, look out for it.

I wasn't too impressed by Arnold as Mr. Freeze. Uma Therman basically carried the movie as Poison Ivy.
Got to agree with some of the opinions posted above, the newer movies are definitely not better than the Michael Keaton Batman movies.
