Serious Organised Crime Agency

Help, I am a little confused.

The Labour Government have been talking about setting up a Serious and Organised Crime Agency and have said it would be a "British version of the FBI". Fair enough.

However, as someone who is very conscious of the increasing taxes we pay in Britain, I am slightly confused.

Don't we already have a "British version of the FBI" called the National Crime Squad. In addition, M.I.5 also have some jurisdiction as far as serious crime goes (I think). So, I am just slightly confused as to why we need another agency, which will cost money. What would this new agency do that the National Crime Squad don't already do?

If anyone has any thoughts on this, please share them.

Maybe it is so that the different agencies that we already have can comunicate with each other properly, so that if each one has a different bit of information then they can hopefully put the little bits together and work out what will/ has happened. Not sure about this, as I've been busy so haven't really had time to listen to the news but I know they were planning to do something like that quite recently.

Let's hope so, Jeremy. I was just curious as to why we had to have another agency. Maybe you can never have too many crime-fighting agencies.
