Selling the Great Lakes, kilolitre by kilolitre

What do you think of all the controversy surrounding a particularly interesting economic/environmental topic, selling the Great Lakes water? Should we sell the water, bulk export it out of the drainage basin? Or should we conserve this precious commodity?

What about the environmental issues the Lakes are facing, such as encroaching species such as the zebra mussel and Asian carp; or man-made pollutants and municipal use of the water?

I was reading an article all about this in TIME. Mostly I think that the water should not be sold off. I can see how, as a resource, we might be potentially motivated to share it with others and gain some profit, but mainly I think the impacts of bulk exports and drainage diversions would do more harm than good.

They definitely should not do that. Living in Michigan, I can totally understand how drastically it would affect everything, and it would never come close to being worth the benefits.
