PostSun Nov 28, 2004 9:58 am    Future Plans / Jobs

Well I'm approaching my senior year in High school (Next Year) and along with it comes the SATs and a lot of stress.
"What are you going to do after High School?"
I really don't know how many times I have been asked that and I think I finally have it. I used to think I would become a Writer but I wanted a more realistic career (That brought money in). I finally decided on Meteorology. I don't know what field yet (I could be a weather man on a News station or I could become a storm chaser and the crazy kid who would head straight into Tornados just to see them. What do you all think?

What are your plans after High school?
Yes I know some of you are in College or are already out, Tell us about your Jobs and the path you chose, It could help out other members trying to figure out how they want to live there life!

I'm in almost the same boat as you

My two cents would be that a weather man would be a good job. It can get pretty thankless sometimes, and I don't know much about it. But it strikes me as being much more stable than some other jobs.

Personally I'm interested in going to Embry-Riddle Aeronotical University. I need some other choices as well, but this one looks like fun Job wise, my dream job would be to work on the computers for the space shuttle. Assuming that they've fixed the shuttles by then

I am kind of undecided about what I want to go into after high-school. I am pretty sure that I want to go to Texas A&M University, especially if I am able to get into the top 10%, and so far all of that is looking good. However, I am not sure what field I want to go in. As some of yall probably know, I am really interested in politics and all of that good stuff, so I was thinking maybe a Bachelor of Science in Political Science.

But then, it doesn't seem that to many people just go strait into politics right out of college, so I am thinking right now that I will go into something else. Two other things that are really interesting to me which I have looked into are Nuclear Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. A&M is supposed to be the top school in the nation for nuclear engineers and it even has its own little reactor on campus I beleive. Plus doing that, I would get to take all those fun science classes . Then again, there is aerospace engineering which seems interesting, but I haven't looked into that as much. But yeah, I think I know pretty much the things I want to do, I just have to get it narrowed down to one .

When I am out of high school I think I'm gonna be a Police Officer. My second choice would be a Firefighter.

Two more years until college for me, what a blast. I don't know yet, either. Either an MBA, Forensics, or an MD (it would be fun to be a coroner).

Woohoo! No SATs in Canada.

Hmm . . . two more years of high school for me, followed by some university time. We're doing Career Studies class this semester, it's rather . . .

When I took this "Career Matchmaker" thing in class, I came up with some cool results. Writer was on the list, and that's what I know I will be. I don't want lots of money per se, but I am aware that society has forced humans to become eternally obsessed with little pieces of paper.

Which is why I'll probably be a writer, as well as one of my other options: Web Developer and Webmaster look most attractive. Those can be rougher jobs at the start, but a well-established person can make some money with them.

I'm attempting to graduate from highschool this year, but I'm already taking college courses majoring in marine/micro-biology. I would *like* to major in chemistry too, but I'm not certain yet. Goal being a Ph.D. eventually. Been thinking about politics lately, too...but, science is a far more solid field. Either way I'd be pleased.

I graduated from HS in spring of 04. so I'm kind of in my "after highschoolness" already. Right now I'm going to the university in town, living at home, commuting to school, and working. And it really sucks.

I'm not going to school next semester, I'm just getting another job and working full-time and part-time. I'll probably also be taking one or two classes just for the heck of it- Forensic Psychology and Forensic Anthropology. ( My college is the only one in the country that offers a forensic undergraduate degree, so people who want to do forensics, go to UCCS in colorado springs)

I also just finished turning in my application for St. Olaf College, which is where I'm really hoping to go next year as a freshman. There I'll probably study English with a concentration in Creative Writing.

and then the plan is to become a screenwriter and a novelist. Then once I become successful in that endeavor, I'm quitting and joining the FBI. I also might do some Air Force somewhere in there.

I probably already am on that path, but maybe someday I will look into getting some of the stories I've wrote (here on STV and in Word) published or something and become an author or something. I guess, time is the only real thing that can tell.

I have NO idea what i want to go into - i have WAY WAY WAY too many interests for my own good. Anywyas, right now im thinking about elementary education. I would love to teach 4th or 5th grade. I was a para in a summer school special ed classrooms this summer for 1st grade and kindergarten. Love 'em to death, but way too much to handle! I absolutly love my level 4s at dance that i teach - they are 5th graders, and they're the greatest!

I work in theatre. Two theatre's actually. Houston's most successful children's theatre and Houstons best all around theatre. I'm passionate about my jobs, and look forward to going to work everyday. I feel very fortunate, how many people can actually say that about their jobs? My advise, do something you can be passionate about. Do it for as long as it is fun, and you love it. If your feelings toward it change, the job needs to change.

I would like to say I know where I'll be in the next five years or so, but I just hope that it's with someone I love, starting a family.

To answer your earlier questions; I took theatre classes in college.
I am now, a stage manager. I also do other random things such as light op, sound op, dresser, run crew... I love it all. I also work in a box office.

(I'm sure you will, and you know what I meant with that smilie I hope, )

I am in my final year of school and am planning to go to university next year. It will depend what I get this year though, as I need to get three B's in three subjects I'm doing, and also for the universitys to accept me. I plan to study something to do with geography, or geography related. Hopefully I will be able to go to America for one of the summers and get a summer job and have a tour around after. Might be able to visit someof you lovely people. I'm not sure what I'd do after uni, have to see what bit of geography I like best and what bit I'm best at and decide then.

Well I came into my mom's school today to help her class make pinch pots. My mom teaches kindergarten, and teaching is something i would like to eventually do with my life. Lol, one of her students told me today "You should be a teacher when you grow up." <-what a hoot... when i grow up.. yes 19yr old...lol! Geez, i love working w/ kids so much!! The grade I want to teach though is either 4th or 5th grade. That's my favorite age group that i teach at dance right now. I don't know what it is that makes me love it so much (genes maybe hehe), but I just do. I was a para in a special education summer school for grades K-1. It was a blast!! Hard work, but a blast!!
