Official: Colombian Rebels Told to Kill Bush

Saturday, November 27, 2004

BOGOTA, Colombia Colombia's main rebel group asked followers to mount an assassination attempt against President Bush (search) during his visit to Colombia last week, Defense Minister Jorge Uribe said. There was no evidence Saturday that rebels even tried to organize such an attack.

Uribe told reporters late Friday that informants said the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (search), known as the FARC, told followers to attack Bush during his four-hour visit in the seaside city of Cartagena last Monday, where he met with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

The defense minister, who is no relation to the president, said security forces were on full alert during the visit. About 15,000 Colombian troops and police, along with U.S. troops and Secret Service (search) agents provided security. There was no indication Bush's life was ever in danger.

Uribe did not say where the informants had heard about the purported order to attack Bush.

The Secret Service did not comment on security details, as is its policy.

"We have full confidence in the fine work of the Secret Service and their work with security officials on the ground when the President travels," White House spokesman Jim Morrell said Saturday.

The FARC has declared U.S. troops in Colombia military targets. The troops are training local forces and providing logistics and planning assistance for military operations against the rebels.

However, the rebels never publicly declared Bush a target during his first-ever visit as president to Colombia. Bush visited Colombia after attending a summit in Chile.

I'll back ya up on this one old pal. I'd have to say that a "No Comment" in this case, means Jeff ain't telling ya what he thinks or he don't have to tell you anything period.

If we don't have anything to contribute then perhaps we shouldn't post.

Huh. Usually when someone asks a person if they want someone to die and they say "no comment," that's because they don't want to answer BECAUSE they DO and that is something that they would regret, stating that. But whatever.

I have no regrets and I doubt that a person could get in trouble for his opinions if you arrest a person based on what they feel than the person who runs your country is as bad as some of the crinimals of this last century.

Even if this went though it wouldn't make that much of a difference. Dick Cheney is already the real voice behind George W. Bush... My dad and mom both claim that Bush is just a Face as president for Dick Cheney and George Bush Sr. For all I know they could be right.

No proof Just pointless accusations

...the death of a president not making much of a difference? The death of another human being?

Dang, people...astounding. Even if you dislike Bush, I would think you'd have some amount of...something when speaking of his possible murder. But, I suppose that's how far the hatred extends. Lovely.

RM don't listen to Kyre and Jeff Miller. They blab about stupid s**t they know nothing about. Bush deserves to die because he doesn't do what they think is right. Stupid comments. Although I wasn't surprised.

There were people being murdered by Saddam before the war. Where were you protesting that? Oh thats right...you weren't.

Because no one deserves to die just because you don't like their personal views. He doesn't support abortion and Gay marriage and he supports the liberation of the Iraqi people. Yeah, he deserves death.

On topic. Those rebels are savages. It isn't surprising they would plot this. To tell you the truth im really surprised from all the contreversy Bush is getting that he wasn't assasinated before. There are tons of phsyco liberals in the US. I guess the Secret Service is that good.

Ok im not going to lower myself to your level. Just drop it. Oh and BTW? I don't give a s**t about your town. Maybe if your town did something to change it and not sit around and cry, things would be better.

John Kerry was in a war!? Wow! That makes him qualified to be President!

Hm. It's almost funny. I could predict all the responses of all the liberals even as I was typing my last response. Wait, no. It's NOT funny to want someone dead. Though, I guess y'all see him as a murder and pillager and death of all you "believe in." I almost can see where you're coming from...but no, I don't. And, Jeff, I suppose it was some instant response to Bush being elected? Clinton was a golden idol with all the answers? Baaaaaah. I haven't seen much change in the way of life between Clinton and Bush's administration, except that during Bush's term, I hear a lot more insane yelling and screaming. It's kind of fun to listen to the screaming, though. It's great to laugh at.
