PostFri Nov 26, 2004 10:56 am    HAPPY BUY NOTHING DAY 26/11 TO YA'LL

Today is the day. The day of buy nothing.

Quote:
For 24 hours, millions of people around the world do not participate -- in the doomsday economy, the marketing mind-games, and the frantic consumer-binge that's become our culture. We pause. We make a small choice not to shop. We shrink our footprint and gain some calm. Together we say to Exxon, Nike, Coke and the rest: enough is enough. And we help build this movement to rethink our unsustainable course.

In its 13 years, BND has become a flashpoint, a day when people of all stripes come together in symbolic protest. Visit the new BND Action Pyramid for a sample of great ways to celebrate.
Need posters, clip-art, web banners, handbills, radio-clips or stickers? No problem. 2004 BND promotional goods are ready for download.

We've put together a radical new tool to keep Jammers connected: JammerGroups, city-based email networks. Join now.

We've also got news and reports from previous BNDs in our archive. Be in touch as your plans come together,

Happy jamming.

And I haven't bought anything today!

Why eat candy when you can have people, Annibel?

Yeah, I drove by a store here this morning and there was a line two hours before they opened. Ridiculous.

I dont think it will ever work even if you broadcast commercials around the world 24 hours a day for 7 weeks up until the day.

There are 293 million people in the US who purchase billions upon billions every year on this day getting them to stop on this day is an impossible dream.

A semi noble cause but for just one day? I mean it makes sense to boycott McDonalds cause they suck and are unhealthy for you but boycotting all products? come on. What are people going to wear? loincloths? Furs? goat leggings?

I know I know, I agree we should not buy into all the advertising crap and just stick to buying what we need. Life would be a whole lot better that way.

Nonononono. Not forever. It's just for today. People need to buy stuff, it would never work forever!
It's just one day to show how much power the people have just by buying. YAY! Power to the people!

OK sorry I am afraid I missed the point. Yes the people do have power, if after seeing the movie "Super Size Me" or read the book "Fast Food Nation" a small percentage of people stop eating McDonalds -it hurts their bottom line.

I quit eating McDonalds after reading the book "Fast Food Nation" back in AUG. Never again! never will I eat there again.
