Agreed. Im not saying all Rap is bad. Some is good. But "street poetry"?
"Im gonna stab a b***h!" "Im gonna kill white cops!" "Im gonna assasinate the President!"
Thats poetry!? Im not saying all Rap is like that but some definitly is.
Music does influence people. They begin to believe that gangbanging and and drug dealing and stuff like that is cool. Like RM said, some kids start to talk that way and act like it. I don't think censoring rap is the way though. Im not sure how to deal with it. See, the kids start to emulate the Rappers. All of these Rappers don't live that way. They tend to be rich and out of the ghetto. But they are rapping about their pasts. When things were bad for them. But being a thug becomes cool so people start acting like that when they don't have to and sometimes it is harmful.

They should use them less, but the *beep* is better than just letting it run rampent. | Why?

Blame the parents if you want to blame anybody, sheesh.
I just listened to American Pie. Does that mean that I'm going to find a Chevy, get drunk, and commit suicide? Don't think soooo. |
Yes, the parents have a great deal to do, as do teachers, counselors, and friends. But often friends and self bring on the music of Ludicrous and Eminem, the two worst in the bunch.
No, I don't think that one song is going to INSANTLY affect you, but rap music DOES! Listen to me--I AM in high school. I've seen EXACTLY how it affects people and I hate it. I remember the days before Eminem, etc. I had friends long ago that started listening to that music and now are cussing between every other word and are going down the drain, and I've seen the culture go from not-so-bad to worse in all my years in school. I see how music has a great influence, and it DOES and it is a GREAT problem. |
I'm in HS, too. All I have to say is that anybody that lets music influence them that much, has to be pretty weak minded. I've met people like that too, and know some. However, it's not the music's fault or the rapper's. It really isn't anybody's fault, besides their own. Should you shut down the industry? Put the artists in jail? What did they do, exactly? It's free speech, they can say whatever they want. As I said, people would have to be pretty weak minded to let something such as music influence them that much.

Can't disagree with that, but I guess I'm really talking about Gangsta Rap.

I understand that. No, we shouldn't shut them down, but they should calm down, and we should watch out for kids.

Exactly. It's a chain:
Parents don't watch over their kids well enough. Kids here music, etc. Kids have friends or co-workers/students that listen to it. Kids are pressured into it. Kids don't get off it.

So basically It all comes back to one thing: Being the parent's fault.
It's not the fault of music, so dont try and censor it. There will just be underground sellings, no one will listen to all the government's "censor this and that" cr*p.

I'm not saying illegalize it, but watch out for the kids. Bleep bad language out. I don't want to here, once again like I was forced to listen to for a second at an old friend's house over the summer, about the f-word and blowing women's breasts out. That's not good. It's not good for the kids, especially.

But again, it's the parents who let the kids listen to the music. Why persecute an artist and force them to compromise the integrity of their work because parents don't know which music is "harmful" (as you put it) to a kid, et cetera.

The censorship is already there. The explicit lyrics rating on the front of the CD. And you arent allowed to buy the CD unless youre a certain age. That is the censorship you seek.

I'm fine with that, but it seems like some people were suggesting there should be no censorship.

No, simply that it should not be so extreme. Censorship is necessary, just not to the extent some here may suggest.
