The Briar Patch refrence was interesting. It was funny when he said "Only two habitable planets lay there. Nothin of importance." They also mentioned "Blocktajok"(sp?). In DS9 a Klingon was renacting the battle from there. One of the most famous Klingons battles in history.

PostSat Nov 13, 2004 7:24 pm    Botany Bay

We hear this dialog...

Malik: Are you familiar with the name Botany Bay?

Persis: It's a penal colony on the shores of Australia.

Malik: It's also the name of a pre-warp vessel, launched at the end of the Great Wars. The ship carried many of our brethren, including Khan Noonien Singh.

Soong: Botany Bay is a myth, there's no evidence it ever existed.

Malik: All records of the launch were destroyed. They didn't want to be found.

Soong: Even if you are right, the ship was lost, never to be heard from again.

Malik: That's exactly my point. Khan was a great leader, but he made one fatal mistake: He ran from his enemies, rather than face them. We spent our entire lives running and hiding. When are we going to make a stand?

Soong: The matter is not open for debate.

How does Malik know about the S.S. Botany Bay? Not from info that Soong left behind, otherwise Malik wouldn't be asking Soong and the group if they know of the vessel (and the Australian penal colony wouldn't be the first thought in Persis' mind). Were there records of the Botany Bay in the Klingon ship database? In the Denobulan ship database? Does everyone except Starfleet know about the ship that has already risen to the status of an interstellar myth? In TOS Space Seed, NCC-1701 has no record of the Botany Bay, because "Records of that period are fragmentary". So, how does a berry-picking hermit of an Augment know about S.S. Botany Bay, 150 years after its launch, yet Starfleet has no record of either the ship or its myth?

This is yet another example of ENT grasping to capitalize on TOS, while the writers are too lazy to think things through.

So, you saw the following familiar face in The Augments, but perhaps couldn't place her name...

Well, that's darling Dayna Devon, co-host of Extra. Yesterday's (Nov. 12) edition of Extra featured a segment with Dayna on the set of ENT, in Starfleet uniform, where her acting skills got a bit of teasing from Brent Spiner and Scott Bakula. Here's a link to screen captures and a complete transcript of that segment...

EXTRA's Dayna Devon on ENT... and vice versa (transcript + vidcaps)

I really like this eposide and it was good that Dr. Soong turned good and he said about artifal lifeforms. Meaning he is thinking about making Data.

Are you familiar with the name Botany Bay?

It's a penal colony on the shores of Australia.

It's also the name of a pre-warp vessel, launched at the end of the Great Wars. The ship carried many of our brethren, including Khan Noonien Singh.

Yes. Its the same Kahn.

The Briar Patch is significant because in Star Trek Insurrection thats where the Baku's homeworld was in.

Blocktabock is a famous Klingon battle. I think against the Rmoulans. I said it was cool they mentioend it because in DS9 it was mentioned as well.

I wasnt sure if we could make that connection between the briar patch and the baku. It seemed a little far fetched, but I suppose its possible.

Yes, that part was awesome. I'd give this episode a 8.8, if anyone was wondering (which I doubt. lol).
