They are different shows. The Simpsons focuses more on the story, albeit alot less these days, whilst Family Guy is just a platform that allows them to fire off as many gags as they can in one show. Family Guy is my favourite of the two shows, but only because The Simpsons has become so disappointing lately.
EDIT: Somehow I managed to vote for The Simpsons, so take off a vote for them.

same here but family guy has a better humour t0 it they have m0re jokes while the simpsons has 2 much slapstick... har 2 believe i kan talk bout this stuff while i'm only 13... but o well
