Presumably you have something in one "base" and the same thing but a different colour in another base and you have to try and get the object of the other team to your own base, but stop the other team doing the same. I have no idea really, but that's the computer game version,

My friends and I played almost every night for the past three summers. It's so fun. For a really long time we would just play on a field in a park, but recently our game expanded into two park, one across the neighborhood from the other. We use light sticks for flags since we play at night. it's the best past time ever.
And playing on wet grass is the best!! It was my trademark to have at least one awesome trip each night.

That sounds like so much fun but please tell me it was more than only two people! Capture the flag is meant to have at least 10 people per team, the more there is the better it becomes! The biggest game that I played was at a campout for boy scouts a few years ago with 200 people on each team across an entire scout camp (which is rather large).

It's fun to play with huge teams like that, but in effect, a lot of the sneaking around is lost. IMO that's the best part. We usually played six to a team, and sometimes as little as three to a team. I always liked that because... like, in huge games, you can just get across the line and tell someone you're on their team and they won't know, unless you wear colors. We all wear black and since everyone knows who's on what team, there's a lot more running, chasing, shoving, tripping, and jailing involved.
The best ever, though? Paintball Capture the Flag in the swamps.

We played across the whole campus, then across half the campus, then in a big open field. Grass wet everywhere, thats why I messed up my foot... (still hurts!)
We did it in the dark, there are a few flood lights, but mostly dark. I made people scream, I was hiding very crafty. Used glow sticks for flags. Freakin awesome game.

Its not hard to do! Get a group of people, find a nice place with some obstacles, and go for it! Always better to do in the dark. I used to play all the time in boy scout camp, but I was substantially better at running aimlessly then. Now, I cant run much, but my tactics are unmatched. I used mad tactics to get the other teams flag captured a few times. Basically, they got modified a little bit.

Yay! Good idea! But.... I probably can't pursue any of my friends to do that, they'd consider it childish...

I played Oregon Trail, The Boxcar Children, Jurassic Park, and castle in elementary school. I don't think our understanding of game rules was big enough to play capture the flag there was always teatherball, but that was a make-up-the-rules-as-you-go-along sort of thing.
