A simple concept, just break the word apart.

Nano = Extremely small, to the 1 billionth power i believe
probe = An exploratory action, expedition, or device, especially one designed to investigate and obtain information on a remote or unknown region. (www.dictionary.com)

So basicall, a really small device that is used to infiltrate the human tissue and begin changing you at the cellular level. Simple as that.

nanoprobes:
The basic building blocks of Borg assimilation, these submicroscopic, self-replicating robots permeate the bloodstream and carry Borg technology throughout the body. Nanoprobes attack the victim on a cellular level, latching on to the blood cells and taking over their functions, rewriting their DNA almost instantaneously. The subject's skin turns gray within seconds, and develops a distinctive mottled pattern. This stage of assimilation leaves a subject passive and suggestible, paving the way for further alteration with cybernetic implants.

nanoscopic, so small they can assimilate(sp?) the founders when they are in the great link. Or thats what i'm gonna put in my Borg-Dominion War story!

Has anyone heard of nanotechnology?

Because we are actually working on making machines like this...not to assimilate people though, lol.

Indeed. I just finished Michael Crichton's Prey. Nanotechnology is certainly fascinating, and scary.

Hmm, I may have to read that book. Is it fiction or non?

Anyways, in my humble opinion nanotechnology is simply amazing. I was watching the science channel a few weeks ago and they briefly covered some of the possibilites of it. One that really caught my eye was a supplement to your red blood cells. They act like red blood cells, but they are much much more efficient, to the extent of where if you had right amount of them, you could run at a full sprint for 15 minutes without even taking a breath.

nano tech is possable but the trouble is to stop them from geting minds of ther own and running riot this si waht is scary about it they are so small they would be very hard to stop

They wouldn't get minds of their own, they would be like a computer chip. Computers don't get minds of their own (although sometiems it seems like they do ), and all a computer is a machine made of infinately smaller machines to perform a task.

Sure, in a way a human brain works the same.

Never heard of A.I.? The actual danger IS that they will just do what they are programmed for. Thats dangerous because nothing will stop them from reaching their goal.

wasn't there something about nanobots being develloped in reality?

But talk's cheap, making it so isn't.

yes, they are doing reasearch on developing nano techonlogy. But tey have no way of keeping atoms the way they are, only at the abolute minimum (i think -279 degrees celcius) the atoms won't shift but thats almost impossible to get. Thye do want too make them too be able too fight diseases and repair damaged tissue (like a heart valve)

It's not construction with actual atoms themselves, its just construction with tiny machines.

What you are saying is like saying we can't build a car because the atoms of the car won't stay in place for us.

Well, that's my hypothesis anyways. Can you cite this information?
