PostMon Nov 01, 2004 9:47 pm    Mastering the Mind

I have a strange idea. instead of us trying to perfect our technologies, in order to better allow us to adapt to our environment using the technology, why not try to perfect ourselves, using our technology, that way we can adapt to our environment, without the need of our technology.

I have heard of "neurosteroids" and experiments on children. On average the childrens IQ is supposedly raised by 35 points. They are also supposedly better emtionally adjusted, score far, far greater in school than just having a high IQ would allow(my father has an IQ of 148, but he did terrible in school), and were supposedly seven times more likely to enter universities than average children.

If there weren't that many hazards(there probably are, since there steroids and they induce increased cell division, they probably up the rate of cancer), would the masses accept this? Is it unethical?

Steroids for the brain? Wouldn't that just be as unethical as steroids for the body? Will our math competitions be reduced to drug tests just as the Olympics have been?

I prefer to get by on my own personality and strength of character, not artificial chemical adjustments to my brain.

Hm, sounds familiar. Oh right, The Borg. The most evil race ever.

Agreed. It sounds too much like trying to improve on ourselves through unnatural means.
