Sat Oct 16, 2004 5:40 pm Spider-Man 3-what do you want? |
|
* MAY BE SPOILERS REGARDING SPIDER-MAN 2. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, PLEASE DO NOT READ *
A third Spider-Man movie is happening, folks. What do you want to see? What do you not want to see?
Events in the second movie suggested that the villains for the third movie will be The Green Goblin (Harry Osborn) and The Lizard (Dr. Curt Conners). However, this has not yet been set in stone so things could change. What do you want to see?
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the return of The Green Goblin, PROVIDED that he is not the main villain. He could be the one, waiting in the wings, plotting against Spider-Man and manipulating events.
The Lizard would be a good villain. In the comics, Dr. Curt Conners accidentally became The Lizard after experimenting with a regeneration serum. The Lizard was not a villain in the truest sense of the word. He'd be a good villain in the movie.
Venom or Carnage would be good but their origins would take a lot of screen-time to explain, so I'd have to rule them out.
One villain I would love to see would be The Scorpion. He was one villain who Spidey could never easily beat.
As for other things in the movie, I want more screentime for Jonah Jameson (I can't get enough of the man), even better stunts (if that is possible) and perhaps another female to enter Peter Parker's world to act as a love rival to Mary Jane. There were plenty of great females in the comics such as Gwen Stacey so it would be nice to see another one. Maybe.

I wish the next movie would feature Carnage. He was such a great villain. As you stated the second movie kinda hinted that The Lizard or Harry(Green Goblin) would be the next villain.

Carnage would indeed be a great villain. In the comics, his origin is tied into Venom's origin. And Venom's origin was tied into the whole Secret Wars thing where the Marvel heroes took on the Marvel villains on another world, with an omnipotent being called The Beyonder watching. That's a lot of backstory, eh?
So, I guess having Venom or Carnage in the movie would require a different origin, perhaps something to do with genetic engineering or something. But, yes, Carnage would be good.
There are so many great villains that we'll sadly never see (there would have to be 20 movies for us to see them all). I liked Dr. Doom, although he was more of a Fantastic Four villain. I also liked Mysterio, The Vulture, Shocker, Sandman, Kraven the Hunter and Electro.
Maybe they should do a Spider-Man live-action series. Obviously, it would have a lower budget but they could use a Martial Arts stuntman (as used in shows like Martial Law) and they'd use stock footage from the movies. Hey, one can always dream!

Wow, I had no idea they would be doing the next Spiderman movie so quickly.
I hope The Green Goblin won't be the same kind of villain like his father. They should try to do something different and like Starfleet Dentist said, it's probably best to add other villains as well.

Personally, I dont want the movie to exist. Thats what I want. I hate sequels that are lame. They ruin the entire series.

Interesting point but not all sequels are lame. Examples of good sequels (IMO) include Superman II, Batman Returns and Ghostbusters II. I could think of a lot more.
Sequels for the sake of it are an annoyance to a lot of people. But sequels that explore a particular theme or concept are welcome, in my opinion.

it isn't a series without sequals, and marvel and fox are doing a great job with these movies.

Fair enough, Angus, but this topic was meant for fans of Spidey who wanted to throw out their ideas for a third movie.

No need to apolgize. I wasn't being rude (intentionally), I just wanted this topic to be a sounding board for ideas.

What I would like to see is the Green Goblin making a return. He was so funny. I don't want to see Spideyman killing yet another villian. I reckon Spideyman should be killed in this one.

Nice idea, but if he did return, I'd want Harry Osborn (not Norman) and I'd want a slightly different Goblin suit.

Wow, controversial. That'd kill a franchise. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have no idea who you are talking about. I'd like the original Green Goblin to come back not his son.

Replying to the lovely 1/1:

Harry Osborn is Norman Osborn's son. In the comics, he became the second Green Goblin. There was also a doctor, Barton Hamilton, who wore the Green Goblin mantle on one occasion.
Just to make things confusing, there was also a character called The Hobgoblin (different people wore the mantle) and Demogoblin. You should be able to find information on the 'net about these characters.

Aww bless ya
Anyhoo, I haven't read any of the comics or anything. I'm not a Spidey fan and I only went to see Spidey 1 because I was the only one who didn't want to see it out of about 12 people. The Green Goblin I want to see again is the one in the first film. Who Spidey evily killed.

Erm, excuse me? I am Spider-Man's lawyer. Allow me...
"Your Honour, Spider-Man DID NOT kill Norman Osborn, The Green Goblin. It is the Green Goblin's own evil that caused his demise. It was HIS weapon/glider that killed him. It was HIS hand that pressed the button that sent the glider towards him, impaling him. Spider-Man did what any person would, he jumped out of the way to prevent harm. What was he to do, Your Honour? Was he supposed to stand there and let the glider impale him? No. He instinctively moved out of the way. The glider then impaled The Green Goblin. If Spider-Man could have prevented that, he would have. Spider-Man is NO killer, he has never taken a life. It was The Green Goblin's own evil that led to his demise, he indirectly caused it. I want this case thrown out of court, Your Honour."

Yes! But, he put his own life above the life of the Green Goblin. Typical!

"Your Honour, how long is 1/1 going to be allowed to peddle these lies? He didn't put his own life before that of The Green Goblin. That would suggest he planned it. He acted instinctively when a dangerous piece of machinery headed for him. In hindsight, I am sure he would have sacrificed his life to prevent the glider impaling Osborn."
