What does star wars have to do with anything?

I think there's a little something inside everyone that is more likely to prefer things that are similar. With similarity comes a feeling of kinship, it's only natural to act that way. However thinking that one trait is inherently better than another or that one trait is inherently bad is totally wrong. I admit I am more likely to be attracted to a guy of my own race than another, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen or that I think my race is better. Just similar to me.

I myself have never encountered racism against blacks. I've seen it on TV and read about it and etc but I've never actually seen a black person descriminated against.

I think there is more racism in the south. It exists everywhere, true, but I think there's more in the south, especially small towns. I heard a story once of a sports team of kids or teenagers and one of them was black and they were supposed to play at this country club but they wouldn't let him in coz he was black. I think it was the 70's? I'm not totally sure of this, it's a vegue memory, but I heard it somewhere. Anyways, I had an online friend in Alabama who admits pretty much her whole family are racists. She had some extremely slight tendencies herself, but nothing hostile. My grandmother was mildly racist, although it was something she was totally unconcious of. ANYWAYS!

I think a lot of the reason some hispanics are in low wage jobs is that most are imigrants and either don't speak fluent english or are unqualified to get better paying jobs. There is no reason they can't learn to speak english better or go to school and get qualified for better jobs. I don't think it has anything to do with racism at all.

While we're talking about racism, what about racism against native americans? I think they are probably the race most descriminated against currently. We still have sports teams called the indians and chiefs and redskins and etc. No one cares about that, but everyone would be in a total and complete uproar if we had a team called the blackskins or negros or especially the other word that starts with N.

Wasn't there a golf course that Tiger Woods wasn't allowed on?
Like you, I've never seen any form of racism. I've heard total dumb-ass comments, but I've never seen any active agression toward people of any color.

Because Emperor Palpatine started the American Civil War as an excuse to exterminate the Jedi Order. Duh!

Thats kinda true.

I have seen it unfortunetly.

Racism in the South again. There is racism all over the World.

Here we go again. I agree it isn't racism but no reason they can't learn English? I guess they'll have to find time from working 12 hours a day with little pay.....

All I can say is . Crazy indians... but that's actually a good point. But you know, it's also perfectly ok for "minorities" to descriminate against a "majority" (say blacks discriminating whites). I've been victim to reverse discrimintation countless times, but there's nothing I can do about it.

I've never encountered racism of any kind personally, towards any race. My only experience at all is in 4th grade when this boy I had known since like, first grade *who happened to be black* accused me of calling him "the n word" I'm not sure if he actually thought I did or if he was making it up, all I know is I almost started crying right there in the counselors office at even the thought of doing that.

I think it's awsome to have bi-lingual people. I work with a few. They speak english pretty well and also help the rest of us learn spansih. All I'm saying is, if you already know english somewhat, it's not that hard to learn it better, especially when you're speaking it on a daily basis.

Tell me more of this "reverse racism"

Guess what: That's part of it. However, in Episode III, when supposed to give up his powers, Palpatine says that he can't give them up because there is still a threat: The Jedi.

Here's the source, and it is TRUE.
It IS spoilers, however.

http://www.beforethemagic.com/thumbnailtour.html

Read up a bit into that, and you'll find that it's true, and if you don't believe the source, wait until May.
(Trust me: I know ALL about SW aside from the Yuuzahn Vong conflict, alright. Don't say that I'm not right! )

Quote:
17. A new order declared

In the Senate heavy debating is taking place. The war has ended, according to certain factions. Palpatine is therefore asked to lay down his emergency powers, but to everyone's surprise he refuses. Palpatine claims the Republic still faces a big enemy: the Jedi...
Wasn't it a former Jedi who led the Separatists? Wasn't it a Jedi Council member who tried to kill him? Palpatine decides a firm hand is needed to bring back order to the Galaxy. The Empire is declared...

Grrrr, thanks for spoiling it for me, or at least some of it! It's actually really interesting, some of the things that you notice in the 4,5 and 6th ones that tie in with the first 2. Anyway, enough of SW,

Reverse Racism is when someone who is black or yellow is racist towards someone who is white.

Racism against, Native Americans, hmmmm. That's an interesting point. But then again, I can see how they do some things to cause hostitility towards them, but that doesn't make it right, nor am I defending them.
I mean, building casinos on land they claim to be "sacred" to them when appealing for it towards the government? Sheesh, hypocritical.

It's hypocritical mostly because they're forced to be hypocritical. Native Americans don't believe in ownership of the land, but because the government requires ownership of the land they have been forced to assimilate into that system.

The Union was right. I toss my head back and laugh if anyone said that the Confederacy was right. For one human to own another human is gross and disgusting.

I work with a lot of indians. i actually work in a casino run by the Spokane Tribe. not all casinos are built in their "land". the one i work at, and several in my area are just sponsored by the tribe. and about this racism towards indians, there really isnt all too much, and every indian i know doesnt care about the sports teams.

the 70's? just so you know, that's 30 years ago. times have changed. as a true-blue southerner, yeah, i agree, there's a lot of racism to black people here, but there's just as much in the north.
and i think there's actually more racism to the mexicans (yes, mexicans) in the north, because the south lives with them, they arent the ones complaining about taking jobs. the north is the one who i've heard more complaints from. i've lived in both north and south, so i know what i'm talking about.
and i think the only time there was real racism to the orientals was during war times.
if there was any major racism going on in this country now it is with the people from the middle east. ever since 9-11, almost every single person that looks remotely middle eastern has faced this racism. my dad said that when he was in albuquerque, there was a gas station he went to, and was friends with the owner, who was from saudi arabia, i think, and on 9-11, there was slanderous writing all over his gas station windows. he wasnt involved in any of 9-11 attacks or anything, but he was still a victim.
also, i've experienced "reverse racism" as you call it, but all it is is racism from a different point of view.

so...yeah, that's my two cents.

Here in New York they petition the land as theirs (I can understand that) but then they go and build a casino on it, it's kinda strange, figuring they say it's sacred and all. And they even get to have smoking in their casinos, because of some reason or another, not sure which one. I've been to one, and it was nasty, smoke everywhere,

Gosh, here they care about Elementary and HS sports teams names. They usually manage to get them changed, if they feel it's insulting to them one way or the other. But I can understand that, as some of it can be interpreted as degrading.

Totally. I don't care that there's teams with indian names. I think it's kinda cool. And I also think that people need to be less easily offended. That would help more than anything. And I know about reverse racism too. On college apps where it says race and then has "african american" "native american" "white"...that's just a small example, I know there are much more, and that that one's a bit too sensitive. Anyhow, the redskins had to change their names to the braves or something like that I think. I know they had to change their name. That's retarded, in my opinion. And indians are awesome. Except for the ones who drink alcohol all day long...they're just creepy deebs.

they sure are creepy deebs, my friend. they sure are

anyway. I think you're right. If I have an aplication with the choices of "African american" "native american" "asian american" "hispanic american" and "white", I'll choose "other". because if I'm white, then the others are black, red, yellow and brown. it's only fair

I think the term African American is degrading to foreigners. There are many black people who are not American, so what are they, eh? Besides, what would us white americans call ourselves? There are waaayyy to many countries where white people came from. We'd be European Americans but nto all europeans are white, either! White's much simpler. Or Caucasian, but that sounds dumb. Besides, have you ever actually seen a WHITE person, hmm? Other than an albino? We're actually beuge/tan people

Or perhaps they have many intelligent points to forward, and are smart enough to cover them all in one post, rather than posting them all over in small one line posts.

Anyhow, I am not for the Union. I am not for the Confederacy. Having analyzed the war, it's my belief that the Union used slavery to justify the forced entry of the South into the Union.

Note that blacks didn't get all their rights until the 1960's.

On the other hand, slavery is terrible and immoral, and at the time of the Civil War, most European nations had outlawed slavery long ago.(U.K, 1830's) I believe that the Confederacy was wrong, for utilizing slaves, and the Union wrong for forcing the South into the Union, and using slavery to justify their forcing them into the Union.

That's the Forum Communist's say on this matter.

Well said Dappet. I think I would have been on the Confederate side, because the north was kinda dumb, what with the awful working conditions for lower class people and all. I mean, I'm not saying slavery is right or nothing, because it's not, it's a horrible horrible thing. I also agree with those arguing that the war wasn't all about slavery, but stated rights. Take a friggin history class! Anyhoo, I'll leave with another quote from Lincoln, a pretty cool guy

Abraham Lincoln wrote:
My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.

Regardless of whether or not the war was fought over the rights of states, you cannot disregard slavery as some minute issue that had no affect on the history of the United States.
I'm moving this topic to World News due to the sensitive nature of the subject, as is obvious by the reactions of posters.

As I said before, the blacks didn't get their rights and freedoms until the 1960's. Even after the war, slave labour was still used because of one main reason; they created a nice tasty economical income.

Nowadays we do basically the same thing: outsource to third world countries and use sweatshop labour (the equivalent of third-world slaves) "If it's cheaper, quicker, and doesn't take place in this country. . . ."

Well, and it's not like the North wasn't doing the same thing to women and children who had to work in factories for spit cents an hour. I mean, yeah, it's not the same as slavery in any minor, but people all over the country were suffering just to get through the next day.
