If everyone ignored terrorism, it would go away. The idea of terrorism is to scare people, so if terrorists saw that no one was scared anymore, they'd stop. Marches against terrorism just encourage it by proving that they have scared people. Tighten up security everywhere and excecute all existing terrorists, et voila! No more terrorists...

Hmm . . . although the general premise is a concept I like, the cynical Dogbert side of me says that your idea wouldn't work.

Terrorists do want attention, but if they are just ignored the situation will still escalate. Firstly, no one can completely ignore terrorism, not on a global scale. Acts of terrorism will still continue, because the terrorists will feel that the governments are once again not listening. If you ignore a terrorist as they crash a plane into your skyscraper, they may be tempted to do an encore performance.

Secondly, never execute a well-known terrorist, especially if they have several thousand religiously fanatical minions. This creates a 'martyr', and people who fight for the cause of a martyr rarely lose. Look at Christianity--a whole religion was created when one man was killed by the Romans. So executing terrorists on a whole may not work, it will just encite more violence.

It's a deadly vicious cycle, and the countries of the world are not helping by refusing to cooperate. It's harder to get intelligence agencies to share info than it is to stop terrorism. Luckily things like that are improving, if only slightly.

I agree that marches again terror are pointless, but to ignore it? That's what was happening with Bush to a certain extend as he was withdrawing American interests in foreign countries, and then it was suddenly brought back to the forefront with 9/11.

If only that would work, but it would NOT happen. If we ignored terrorists, then the situation WILL escalate. They would see us as being weakened, and thus it would escalate.

The terrorists we're talking about are making this a holy war, there's not way around it. The terrorists are against Christians and Christian nations. We ignore them, they'll do everything possible to annihilate us.

EXACTLY. And on top of that, if you are attacked--ESPECIALLY on a massive scale, you MUST respond, or face destruction and slavery. I don't want to become the "United States of Islam" or the "United States of Allah" or the "United States of Usama." I have nothing against their religion, but I don't want to be forced to believe it.
