Please help me choose a DVD player

Some of you will know that I am a total technology ignoramus who knows little about technology in general and DVD's/computers in general.

Before I start the boring task of browsing online stores, I'd appreciate it if you could point me in the direction of a suitable DVD player. I do have one now but am looking for a new one. Price isn't an issue.

Preferably, I'd like a combined VHS/DVD player although that is not a must.

I want a multi-region one that can record and plays recordable DVD's. By the way, what's the best recordable DVD's? What's the difference between, say, a DVD-R and a DVD-RW?

In a nutshell, I want a recordable DVD that plays ANY DVD of any region and one that is compatible with DVD-ROM?

I dont do DVD players, except on computers.

My only reccomendation, get a good brand. The little bit extra you pay is 100% worth it, especially when your badly branded player dies, and you have to get a new one. I learned that the hard way.

^ I have an off-brand, so to speak. Cyberhome. I've only had it for a few months, but it works well, has not died, and was only 40 bucks

You have DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+R, DVD+RW.

The difference between R and RW: Recordable and ReWritable. The first one you can burn only once, the latter can be written on a thousand times.

The difference between - and +: the compatibility with older DVD-players. - will play on old models, + won't.

Yah, if the unit goes down...WARRANTY! Definetly make sure you get a good warranty.

Oh yeah, the best brand (most cost effective) are fujifilm. They are great dvds, and they are usually reasonable in price.
