I notice that this movie will be getting a 10th Anniversary Special Edition DVD.
You know, I've never seen the movie. I know the premise which does sound interesting. Is it any good? Anyone have any thoughts on it?

Yeah, Shawshank is awesome. It's too bad Stephen King doesn't spend his time writing more stuff like this... he also wrote "The Body" which they turned into the movie "Stand By Me" which was good like Shawshank... but instead he wastes his time on horror novels about lamp monsters *shakes head* crazy Stephen King

Finally! I'm glad someone started a post about this movie.
The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies all time. It's a long movie, about 160 minutes I think but every minute is worth it. Once you start watching the movie, you'll be attachted to your chair or couch fir the remainder.
Morgan Freeman is also one of my favorite actors. I think he acts really well (so did Tim Robbins). The movie got 7 Oscar nominations.
I recommend this movie to everybody. A must have and a must see!

omg. The Shawshank Redemption is the film I have to write an essay on this year.
"An important idea in Frank Darabont's "The Shawshank REdemtption" is that of redemption, and that anyone who deserves to be redeemed can be if they put in the effort and try. This film follows Andy Dufresne, a banker, who is convicted and incarcerated for the murder of his wife."

^Yes, that was very sad indeed.
The part were I shed a tear was at the very end, the last scene. I should see that movie again, I really like it.

I like this movie. The only other thing I've seen that was written by Stephen King is IT. When I saw IT I laughed sooooo hard!!!! It's the funniest movie I've ever seen. LOL

A lot of Stephen King's works haven't, IMO, translated that well to the screen. I disliked certain movies such as The Shining and Misery.
However, I have nothing but respect for IT!, one of the best movies (or Epic TV Arc) I have seen. Tim Curry is fantastic as Pennywise, the movie is pretty creepy and everyone-EVERYONE-puts in a good performance.
I've read the book and the film is quite different to be honest. But whenever a movie is made of a book, changes simply HAVE to be made so that the story can be condensed into a movie's running time. IT! clocks in at three hours (I think) and makes good use of that time. Not a single scene is wasted, the dialogue is top-notch and the characters all elicited emotion from me.
It is, quite simply, a work of art in my humble opinion.

I love how Reed describes the opera, that "the lady's must be talking about something so beautiful, they can't put it into real words". And I love that opera. I sometimes like to think of italian opera in that light. it makes it cool in a new weird way

I have yet to see this movie. Although a friend of mine is in it. She directed me in, You Can't Take it With You, years ago... She's a cashier, and actually the only woman in it that did not end up on the cutting room floor!!

I think it's a well done movie too. I just thought it was funny, mind you I also thought the Extorsist was funny.
Have you read Silence of the Lambs. The book is sooo good. I want to see the movie, but the book is just awesome.
Also I think the book version of Star Trek TMP is a better book, aside from the gramatical errors (like formulas not formulae), than film.

I read The Silence of the Lambs before seeing the movie.
The book was excellent, and the movie was great. It stayed quite true to the book, which was pretty cool. It won Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 1994, I think it was. It's worth seeing.
And I agree, The Exorcist was funny to watch, she sounded like Hitler, and that Mary statue thing was pretty funny, too.

Two people here actually found The Exorcist scary? Remind me never to stop the night at your homes, if you find that film funny, then something is very wrong. 
Each to their own, though. I found Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original version) quite funny even though it's quite a sick and disturbing movie.
Whatever we will we come up with next? Soon, we'll be saying that the book War and Peace is the best joke book ever.
