Here are a couple of poems I had to write for my writing class: (These are based on when the Europeans land in America)
The Poem of the Native American
His black, braided hair lazily bounces
on his sun-stained back.
His eyes question the strange site
that they behold.
His body trembles as the object
creeps closer to the sandy shores.
His long legs gently buckle at the
thought of what this bewildering boat
could hold in store.
His thoughts roam freely while a pale-skinned
hand stretches out to meet his own.
The Poem of the European Explorer
His pounding heart tests the limitations
of his chest.
His soggy, wet hair tingles under the glistening
helmet that adorns his head.
His confident eyes constantly absorb and
behold the new, fresh undisturbed land.
His mouth sends forth a command
that will be followed without hesitation.
His brave shoulders proudly flank
his solid build that gazes on this
new discovery.
his feet quickly shuffle from plank
to plank ensuring that everything is
right and that nothing is wrong.
His actions abruptly halt as he
associates his thoughts with the motionless
hosts that await their arrival.
