Fla., Ga. Declare Emergency Ahead of Frances

Thursday, September 02, 2004

STUART, Fla. With homes still swaddled in blue tarp and the deaths from Hurricane Charley still fresh in their minds, Florida residents lined up before dawn Thursday for supplies or made evacuation plans as they braced for what could be the mightiest storm of the season.

Three-quarters of a million people in Florida were told to leave their homes by Thursday afternoon as Hurricane Frances (search) inched toward the U.S. mainland. States of emergency were declared in both Georgia and Florida.

The latest evacuation order was issued Thursday morning in Broward County, where up to 250,000 people living on barrier islands, in mobile homes and in low-lying areas were told to be ready to leave. Among the counties issuing orders earlier were Palm Beach County and Brevard County.

Ed Rappaport, deputy director of the National Hurricane Center (search) in Miami, said Thursday that Frances is just as strong as Hurricane Charley (search), which devastated Florida's southwest coast Aug. 13, but twice the size.

My little cousin made a comment that made me think he didn't mean anything mean by it but he said the way florida is going by the end of the year there may not be a state there anymore if these huracaines continue.

A friend of mine who plays Call of Duty says he wont be online for a few days because of the hurricane. It makes me sad.

Hmm one less foul mouthed teen playing a online game. I personally don't see the loss thats why I stoped playing online games. It got kind of demeaning when someone would kill you than say your a stupid mother *beep*. but I hope everyone in florida is ok at the end of this huricane.

LOL, hes in my clan. Hes like 24 or so, he sounds 17 though. He is actually remarkably calm.

Now when it comes to swearing with me, hoo boy.

Yah, sucks to be Florida. This is number two for them and all. Makes me glad to be west coast.
