FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Forest Grove police are trying to figure out why someone dropped a bag of some sort of powder material from a small plane earlier this week.
Officer Mike Hall shows reporters the bag filled with a powdery substance.
The bag fell onto Barbara Vreelands home, smashing through her roof and leaving behind an eight-inch hole.
"The house just vibrated, you could just feel the impact, Vreeland recalled.
Inside the home, investigators found a bag and 14 pounds of powdery material scattered all over the attic insulation. They said the substance resembled ash.
There's been debate that it's possibly cremated remains, explained officer Mike Hall with Forest Grove police.
Barbara Vreeland's house now has a hole in the roof that needs to be repaired.
The State Crime Lab is analyzing the substance and should know soon if investigators are correct.
Witnesses said a low-flying, single engine plane circled the area three times Sunday evening before the passenger dropped a bag. They said the plane was white with blue trim and looked like a model similar to a Cessna.
We are investigating it as reckless endangerment, Hall said.
Vreeland cant imagine why someone would drop the bag on her home and shes glad no one was hurt.
Police think the person may have actually been aiming next door because Vreelands home borders a cemetery.
Forest Grove police are asking anyone with information about the plane or the mysterious powder to contact investigators.
