But it is still a different label. It would be a form of elitism, of categorization, and of restriction. After all, although they may be one in the same, which would you rather brag about? "Oh, we're going to get married!" Or "Oh, we're going to enter a civil union!" Marriage has always been a symbol of unity, and it is not just meant for Christians, it is meant for everyone. Not being able to say that they are married would be a stigma for a couple, because although marriage and civil unions may have the same benefits, socially they would not be treated the same.
Now, let me ask this question. What would allowing same sex couples the right to marry do to harm you? It wouldn't kill anyone, it wouldn't be opening our doors to decadence and base practices--because seriously, there are worse sexual practices going on in North America. It won't cause pigeons to start singing opera, and it won't cause on epidemic of spontaneous combustion? What reason is there to prohibit same sex marriage, other than personal or religious belief?

Well, there is another main reason apart from my personal and religious beliefs - medical. Marriage won't make much of a difference, but there is a much higher percentage of AIDS in gay people.

Okay, but again, marriage won't make much of a difference. In fact, marriage would solidify the concept of monogamy, thereby preventing further transmission of the disease.

Yeah, was why I said that marriage wouldn't make much of a difference. I doubt it would stop moving around couples though, as gay people, in a survey I read recently, in a marriage (this was in a country it was legal in) break up far quicker on average than hetrosexuals. I would try and find the figures to show you but I'm getting told to go off the net by my mum now, so I'll try and find it tomorrow.

But who cares about percentages, if someone wants to get married then they should be able to. We are people to, we want the same things as everyone else. It's like when i'm older i want to have a daughter. and i have been thinkin about it for quite a while so why should i not be allowed that. There is nothin wrong with it, People want to ghet married then let them get married it's their choice.
